Interesting comparison - https://www.thescreeningroomav.com/sonyjvcprojectorshootout

Those are my findings as well. I would never say there's no benefit to the native 4K panels on the SXRD projectors, as I have seen UHD content that looked plainly better on the Sony's, but I don't think that type of content happens often enough to justify the lower contrast, brightness and 'pop' that these Sony's have by comparison. As I said in my shootout post, I don't think the reason in which one should choose the Sony should be because it's native 4K. I also discussed why I think the Sonys aren't always showing more fine detail in that post. The Sony 4K should be chosen if you like better native motion and a slightly more organic appearing image, but overall,  like they concluded in that writeup, the JVC wins overall. You really need to step up to Sony's $25000+ models (885ES and 5000ES) if you want to truly compete with these JVCs.

The new CMS update does not cause an issue when E-shift and Low lag is engaged.

Mike do you know if they are able to fix the Low Latency loss of detail bug that was discovered when these models were released via firmware?

I know you said at one point it was done whenthe units were sent in for CMD repair, but I am not actually interested in that much, I did enjoy and get used to being able to have LL switched on at all times in 24p when I was assessing the 9900.

The 11 second sync time was a welcome change.

Yes, I was told that is corrected also.

Many people ask what is the difference between the x20 series vs the x40 series.

RS420 vs RS440
420 has E-shift 4 and 440 has E-shift 5
420 has 2 year warranty and 440 has 3 year warranty with advanced replacement.
420 dynamic iris works on 1080P 2D and 3D content. 440 dynamic iris works with all (4K) content.

RS520 vs RS540
520 has E-shift 4 and 540 has E-shift 5
520 has 3 year warranty and 540 has 3 year warranty with advanced replacement.
520 dynamic iris works on 1080P 2D and 3D content. 540 dynamic iris works with all (4K) content.
520 HDR mode uses DCI P3 filter. 540 has two HDR modes, one with DCI P3 filter and one without filter.

RS620 vs RS540
520 has E-shift 4 and 640 has E-shift 5
620 has 5 year warranty and 540 has 3 year warranty with advanced replacement.
620 dynamic iris works on 1080P 2D and 3D content. 640 dynamic iris works with all (4K) content.
620 HDR mode uses DCI P3 filter. 640 has two HDR modes, one with DCI P3 filter and one without filter.

There are HF Fury products that you can add to the x20 series models that will give you use of the dynamic iris on these models.

A question regarding vertical stretch for an A-lens comes up often. The JVC lamp based projectors can do vertical stretch for 1080P content at all accepted frame rates. With 4k content, they can do vertical stretch at 24p and 30p. So if you have a streaming device like Roku or Apple TV, you need to set those up so that they use native frame rate, because you will not be able to vertically stretch 4k 60p content. This is do to the required processing power to do this. The only JVC and Sony projectors that can do vertical stretch of 4k 60p are the VW885, RS4500 and VW5000.

If you have the Oppo 203 or 205, that gives you another choice for vertical stretch and can do the stretch with 4K 60P content.

This question often comes up. There is a fix for the bug where low latency and E-shift is turned on at the same time. This fix also takes care of the CMD banding. All of our projectors have this fix.

I just saw this on Twitter -
" Client’s JVC HDR projector had 700 hours of use on it since I last measured it.  The light output was unchanged and the color only shifted slightly. " RS520.

Jeff seems extremely blunt and not afraid to call foul when it's there. I read a post on the other forum where someone was insinuating that JVC bulbs dim ridiculously fast. That hasn't been the case since the first generation eshift units iirc. And even then, JVC recognized the fault and issued a revised lamp with the fin (or whatever it was called) to help properly cool it so it wouldn't degrade so fast. JVC time and time again seem to listen and rectify issues that their users have with the projectors they sell. That isn't the case with some of the other big names in this industry.

A friend of mines RS600 with over 2000 hours on the lamp only has a 10% lightloss since new, I have calibrated it several times and it has been incredible stable. After the initial gamma drop I have only done minor tweeks to get reference results, meaning all delta E´s under 1 in both grayscale (21 point) and colorspace (saturation sweeps in Calman). This is about the same with all JVC´s I have followed the last years and what Cine4Home says about the unstability of the gamma and it takes about 1,5 years for it to get stabilize is not my experience. In my and many others experience the gamma stabilizes in around 2-300 hours. Another friend of mines RS540 the gamma has not dropped at all in 200 hours.

The same can not be said of Sony projectors, they are very unstable and loose about 20-30% light in the first 100-200 hours. The worst I have seen is 40% in 200 hours.

Andreas

Calibration software: Lightspace and Calman. TPG: Murideo Fresco SIX-G

These newer JVC lamps seem the closest thing to laser compared to anything other lamp based brand out there.
