Any Jazz fans here?

I was just reading about the new boxed set of John Coltrane's early recordings called Coltrane '58. This is a collection of his work as either the bandleader or co bandleader on all recorded in 1958, on the Prestige Records lable.

The set contains 37 tracks that are organized in chronological order according to the day they were recorded. So, the first track "Lush Life" which is considered one of Coltrane's standards was recorded in January of 1958 and so on until you reach the last track, "Time After Time" which was recorded in December of that same year.

I am a beginner Jazz fan but I do have a few of his albums and generally like what I have heard.

The set is available as a digital download from HDTracks and Pro Studio Masters in 192/24 and 92/24, a CD version, and an eight-disc set on vinyl.

Anyone buying? I am very tempted to grab the vinyl version.

I'm a jazz fan and definitely a Coltrane fan. I was excited to pick up "Both Directions At Once" last year as it was a "lost" Trane record, albeit somewhat unfinished. That was great but it's hard to keep up with all the various posthumous releases and repackaging that goes on. Themed box sets have long been a way of reselling existing material, and if you don't have it why not. Hearing Trane chronologically is a very valid and interesting way to approach his material as he was well known for moving very quickly into different approaches and sounds. He was also documented at a very high rate especially once he started working with Bob Thiele at Impulse in the 60's. For a musician who was a leader basically 10 years, it's incredible how many sessions were recorded. 1958 is a year before one of the pivotal years in both Trane's career and jazz. I don't recall the various sessions of that year so it'd be interesting to look them up, but this should be a very nice set and a pretty good place to start your exploration of the world of John Coltrane - and set the stage to appreciate what comes in the following few years.
