What I'd be most interested in hearing from people is what kinds of improvements do they want to see on new models that may come out maybe next year? I doubt we'll see anything new this fall due to COVID but also, no one is forcing JVC's hand to do so.

Personally, I'd like to see at least a 10% increase in on/off contrast, more light output and if they plan on keeping eshift on the top model, add in HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort to allow for an 8K video input option. They should also fix the limited chroma resolution when sending a 10/12bit signal.

And, as always, I'd like to see ANSI contrast improved, but I doubt that will happen.

That and faster sync times.

Agree with both of these.  Would add improved DI functionality and choices, with fewer artifacts and complete fade to black.

And improved DTM, perhaps with room-specific customization, getting closer to 'set it and forget it' HDR functionality would be nice as well!

Interesting that I had to really stop and think about what I would improve, since it works so well as is!

I'd love to have the Lens Memory tied not only to specific aspect ratios, but to all user setting for said Memory. For example, let's say Lens Memory 1 was for 2.40:1 movies, but I need two different settings...one for HDR and one for SDR. Same for 16x9 movies. It would be nice to have one memory that chooses every aspect of the picture mode versus choosing one lens memory, then a second picture mode. It would also be nice to have "instant HDMI sync," but that may be a pipe dream :)

I wish the projector had black bar detection like many video processors do. If it did, it could switch aspect ratios automatically. madVR can recall lens memories based off of black bars/aspect ratio. Really handy. It controls my NX9 over IP from my HTPC. It works in conjunction with my media player. It will pause the movie, switch aspect ratios based on which lens memory is assigned to a particular aspect ratio, and then start playing the movie once it gets confirmation that the lens memory has been set. This is one of the main reasons why I opt to use an HTPC. So much customization and functionality.

The dynamic iris, at least on the RS3000/NX9, is the best I've seen overall. I use auto 2 mode and with most movies I don't see it working for the entire movie. There are some gamma shifts on occasion, but overall, it's some of the best DI programming I've seen. A few tweaks could help, but I don't think a big improvement is even possible.

A more powerful FPGA could improve DTM and I'm willing to bet JVC is already working on improvements.

I have the JVC DLA RS2000 and Panasonic DP-UB9000.  They’re both new to me as they were just installed.  Having said that since both devices have  plethora of adjustments, I’m a bit overwhelmed.  Do I adjust “picture quality” on the JVC or PANA.  Also which device is performing upscaling to 4K from 1080P sources? Do I need to disable one or the other?  Do they both scale together?  Thanks. Joe.

I would adjust picture quality on the JVC. The Panasonic will up convert to 4K and when that happens the projector does nothing, since it is receiving a 4k signal.

Turn off the HDR Optimizer tool inside the UB9000's menu system. Make sure you're using the RS2000's frame adapt HDR mode when sending the projector an HDR image. Out of the box, Natural mode is probably your best bet for regular SDR video content. It's going to offer the most accurate image.

I agree with Mike. Let the Panasonic upscale 1080p content to 4K. It does a better job than the RS2000.

I need to do some research to get my MadVR to work that way. Seems amazing to have.
