JVC Autocal Software V12 calibration for 2019 RS1000/RS2000/RS3000/NX5/NX7/NX9

Hi,

I own a JVC rs1000/nx5/n5 projector. Recently, I upgraded the firmware to version 3.5 and the calibration software to version 12, 1.10. With these updates, the calibration is interrupted with the error message “Connection to the sensor was cut off. Please un plug USB connection and click retry button. And click the START button at the bottom right.” The calibration worked just fine with the previous firmware and software versions (I’m using the SpyderX Pro and Win 10).

Just wanted to check if I'm the only one with this problem... Thinking of going back to previous firmware and software versions.

Apparently the SpyderX returns this error message when it gets a 0 reading. Have you tried increasing the brightness during calibration?

Thank you for the tip!

No, I wasn't aware that you could change the brightness setting used during calibration (apart from lamp mode and aperture setting). Just to be sure about this, how do you set brightness for the calibration?

Concerning the error message, I was able to run through both red and green gamma measurements even though the two first measurement steps produced 0 values (I used the 20 step "normal" measurement). For the blue gamma, however, the error message pops up. Is this expected? Do all three colors need to have measured zero in one or more steps before giving an error?

Zoom the projector into the screen to make the image smaller (brighter).

Of course, didn't think of that. Thanks! I'll try once more and let you know about the results.

I'm receiving the exact same "connection was cut off" error message using firmware version 3.5, also using the SpyderX pro.  I tried the suggestion of zooming in to increase brightness, but I got the same error at the same point.  I'm also seeing the error when the calibration gets to blue.  Any other ideas?

Yesterday, I was able to successfully complete several calibration runs. It was the tip from David Vaughn which did the trick, i.e. zooming (so thanks for that!). The first successful run was with the "normal" 20 step gamma calibration. I then tried with the "Quality" 33 step calibration, and it failed with the same error message (also for the blue measurements). Again, the solution was to zoom to a smaller image size, actually to the limit. After that, even the 33 step calibration worked.

I now realize that the tolerances are quite small. sdenman, is there anything you can do to boost light output a bit more?

Thanks to_shine, glad to hear you were able to get things working.

I was actually able to get the calibration to work once (using quality mode), but then every subsequent attempt has crashed with the "connection" error, under normal and fast mode.  Interestingly, the calibration is now crashing very early on, during the initial log just after it measures yellow, whereas it was previously crashing much later.

I've tried zooming in as far as possible, but get the same error.  I'm trying to calibrate the SDR, with Natural picture mode, low lamp.  I'm projecting onto a Stewart Firehawk G5 screen, 123", from about 16' away.  My room is semi-light controlled, but with light colored walls and a white ceiling.  I'm not really sure what levers I have to increase brightness besides setting the lamp to high.

Is anyone else having trouble getting the i1 Pro2 to connect?  After the white light flashes I press the calibrate button and I just an an orange light and it refuses to connect.  Yes the white tile is visible to the sensor.  When using the i1profiler software it connects just fine.  Never seemed to have an issue with the previous version of autocal.

You don't have to press the calibrate button on the i1Pro2, just put it on its white tile cradle BEFORE starting Autocal and then let go, after selecting the i1 Pro2 icon it may take several seconds to calibrate ( wait till you see the flash ) then put it back to its measuring position.
At least that's how it goes with mine, but I will try it again tomorrow.

I could not get it to work with my main Win10 PC or my surface pro7 but its working on my wifes laptop.  Go figure.  No idea what could be different on my two devices.  All Win10 and all have the latest autocal installed.  The meter connects right away like normal on the one but displays an orange light on the meter and refuses to connect on the other two.

I wonder if the USB port is underpowered? Are you using a USB extension cable? If so, you may need a powered USB hub to ensure there's enough juice to keep it within spec. Not 100% sure about this, but that may be the issue.

I thought this might be the case so I connected directly with single cable.  Same results.  Using wife's laptop for now I can work around the issue but doesn't make sense why it doesn't work with other Win10 PCs.

That doesn't make sense to me either unless the USB ports on your laptop are underpowered versus your wife's?

USB 3.0 ports (blue plastic inserts) put out more power for devices than USB 2.0 ports (white plastic inserts).
