Does anybody send in the i1 Pro 2 for recertification ?

The sequence for old VPRs was up-down-right-left-enter. Maybe it works with N series as well.
Are you sure there are internal patterns helpful for correction, like R,G,B and W?
Yes, service menu contain some internal patterns including R,G,B,W that are enough for a manual meter profiling, include also C,M,Y for an additional of Gamut definition, if you want perform it.
The N7/RS2000 right sequence to show the service Menu is:
- No menu shown.
- Press the [OK] button.
- Within press the [<] button.
- Within press the [>] button.
- Within press the [OK] button.
- Within press the [BACK] button.
- Within press the [OK] button to display the service menu.

IMPORTANT WARNING: using the Autocal software changes internal tables in the projector. The first time you use it and save a calibration, it will create a .INIT file that contains the calibration tables as they were when the PJ left the factory. This .init file is saved in the folder you have selected in the software settings. There is no way to re-create this .INIT file if you lose it or delete it, yet restoring this .INIT file is the only way to revert the PJ to its factory state (doing a factory reset in the service menu only restores user settings, not calibration tables). So please make sure that you back up this .INIT and keep the back-up copy in a safe place.

I mean, from firmware 2.xx JVC went to firmware 3.10, during the first calibration, after the installation of the 3.10 firmware, a new file.init was created, this cancels and replaces any previously generated .init file? I think so because the new firmware modifies the internal database of the projector, for example version 3.10 introduced the frame adapter HDR that did not exist in the previous versions. So if you need to reinstall the.init file, is the last one created the only valid?

Actually Autocal re-creates a new init file whenever it does not find any existing one on your PC in the default folder or the one you have specified in the autocal parameters

I would say that the INIT file is always valid. 3.10 introduces the new Frame Adapt mode but it cannot be calibrated on its own, it relies on the static HDR10 calibration (gamut, color temp, gamma) and even then isn't 100% accurate. this would suggest that there are no new tables coming with the new f/w.

Of course, the only way to prove this would be to experiment. I think JVC would have sent a warning if it was the case, or would have at the very least created a new INIT file and told us why at the first Autocal use with 3.10.

A new INIT file is created whenever you change the folder or delete its content, but it doesn't mean that it will allow you to go back to factory settings. Only the very first INIT file allows this.

I don't think there are new tables for the new Frame Adapt mode, otherwise we could calibrate it properly with the JVC Autocal and it wouldn't rely on the HDR10 calibration, as is the case currently. I didn't see any new INIT file created when I upgraded to 3.10, but I could have missed it.

Of course, the only way to find out for sure is to experiment, but count me out of that one :)

Thank you so much for all the effort you have put into this guide.  

Can you please help me understand . . . the AutoCal sorts out the Gamma (using SpyderX) and the Colour (using i1Pro2). How/what is used to set the contrast and brightness or is this covered by the AutoCal?  I know that you have given some example settings for calibration, but not all units are the same. How do I ensure I am getting the correct brightness and black levels? 

FYI - I have SpyderX, i1Pro2 (ES-2000) and i1Display and HCFR

I think that, because the hardware not change, any new firmware create a new factory settings. Upgrade means to change the software, the data base and correct te bugs, otherwise don't have sense. Example,  in one of the upgrading it was been inserted the option Panasonic table, means that, the .init file create after the upgrading, at the first new calibration,  contain the factory data for Panasonic also, and if it is imported the old .init file (done before the upgrading)  this don't have factory data for Panasonic. So I think that any firmware upgrading change the old factory default values and create a new factory status. In any case I can state that in my case when I have installed the firmware 3.10 a new .init file has been created.

You have to use brightness and contrast patters (for both SDR and HDR) to set brightness and contrast after the Autocal. There are many sources for these: Spears and Munsils discs, Masciola patterns, etc.

Nothing specific to Autocal here, you can do it by eye as none of your meters can reliable measure black (at least off the screen).

I can confirm EFI ES-2000 work like an i1pro2 in JVC autocal and in Calman - needs for boths only the driver "i1_x64.sys, year 2006 release" instead, the 2009 release of driver, works with Calman but not with JVC Autocal. Both the software recognize ES-2000 as an i1pro2 with hardware serial number. I think the principle it is valid for other software also.

Tank you for the suggestion, I have bought ES-2000 after I read your thread and now I am glad confirm your hypothesis.

In therms of hypothesis I think that the colorimeter EIZO EX3 is a sypder5 clone and in this case the cost is very low.

I have purchased a used ES-2000 from eBay, it appears fine in Win10 Device Manager, it passes all tests successfully in i1Diagnostics, but the driver is 2.40.0.1315 (2009) and cannot be seen.  Any ideas of where I can find the older driver and what version that is?

The i1Diags being successfull means the driver is correctly installed, that's all that is required, BUT for autocal to detect it, it has to be plugged in and sitting on its calibration white tile support (white tile uncovered of course) BEFORE starting autocal.
