Lumagen Radiance Pro
« on: March 28, 2018, 12:11:14 PM »
I now have a Lumagen Radiance Pro. Who else has one ? The scaling is excellent, and the next feature I really need to spend time with is the HDR tone mapping.

Just got delivery of my Radiance Pro 4242 with 18 GHz inputs/outputs and installed in my rack. This coming weekend, I'll start getting to know it.

I'm planning on trying some more settings and features of the Radiance Pro this week. There is a lot this processor can do!

I would be super curious how the scaling and chroma performance is on the Pro, would it be possible to post some test results from your end, like this 1080P chroma zone plate upscaled to 4K.

I can see about test patterns, when I have more time.

Last night I experimented with my not so good A T & T U Verse cable TV - running it through the Radiance Pro, and having the pro scale it to 3840 x 2160. The picture definitely looks better. I also used the video delay feature. For some reason, U verse has had a lip sync issue - maybe because it's over the internet, and coming from a wireless modem. Never had that problem with Dish, but that was hard wired from the sat. dish on the roof. Anyway, it worked - better picture, audio is now sync'd !

I have the pro. Its a very powerful processor. I love that it is smart enough to know if the source
is rec2020 or 709 and chooses the associated memory on the fly. I also like they make it easy to build a custom gamma curve. The box can do almost anything, Lumagen is in a league all by themselves.
Anyone thinking of purchasing one I have no reservation recommending their products. Check with the sales team. I am pretty versed with the product I am glad to help if anyone has any questions.

Lumagen has added Dynamic HDR Tone Mapping for the Radiance Pro -

I'll hopefully have some time to download and experiment with this on Sat or Sunday this coming weekend. :)

I've got the latest firmware loaded and tried the HDR Dynamic Intensity Mapping today. So far it looks really good. Another step up picture wise !

So I tested the movie " Solo " on 4K Blu-ray. The Dynamic HDR Tone Mapping made a big difference. It was perfectly watchable on my system before, but it looks much better now.

Also have a Pro 4242 18G in / out; I set this up myself.  I load 3DLUTs generated in Lightspace for colour & gamma correction of my JVC DLA-X7900.  I also use the auto aspect detection, combined with a Raspberry Pi running a Python script to act as "glue" to drive the electric masks on my screen.   It's a nice setup, and I particularly like being able to use all the features on all my playback devices; colour correction and auto aspect within Netflix etc is really neat.  DTM does seem to be a useful step up, too.

Craig are using the tone mapping on top of Chad B's calibrated gamma presets?

I am, and HDR. I'm going to re-visit a few 4K Blu-rays now. I think John Wick 2 has some good scenes to test.

So I have been told that using a tone map on top of a custom curve is a no no.  Interesting to hear that is what you are doing, successfully it sounds like.
