We watched Passengers tonight with the Panamorph Paladin DCR lens - about 44 foot lamberts on my screen - incredible detail I don't recall seeing before. Best A lens hands down I've ever had by a large margin ! My three guests ( regulars who came over this afternoon for the lens / no lens demo ) said keep the lens! It's like a giant flat panel at times now ! The added brightness and pixels brings out details in objects in movies you couldn't see before. Screen shots coming .I'm at 701 hours now.
Although I'm sure you've watched many more movies than I have, I'm getting close to 900 hours (lots of time playing around...)

True as far as the extra pixels go adding more light, but you also gain more lumen output when using more zoom. So there is more light to be had with either method. The question remains, how much is the difference and does the anamorphic lens beat it out still. I have an ISCO anamorphic lens here. If I have time I'm going to take some measurements later.

Well, some people buy ski boats / sail boats / sports cars / airplanes or go on expensive cruises. Some people like home theater instead. I just got a wine catalog with 2005 Chateau Latour Bordeaux in it - $ 1099.00 a bottle. I can get you a DCR lens and Lumagen Radiance Pro for less than a case of that wine !
Funny this apsect...Just recently i was ask how much the Z1/RS4500 cost me, after telling him , his eyes bulged and he expressed absolute shock! ..( his reply ...Bl**dy hell, that much just for a HT projector!!) The same person only just recentley purchased a pair of Tidal Speakers for $65K....but thats OK!
Now that I've had more time to experiment with the DCR lens, I can say there is really no substitute.
$65K for speakers ? That's nuts - it's not like they are a laser projector or anything !
Just curious, did you ever use an ISCO III?
ISCO does make a 1.25x lens that's even larger and even higher quality than the 1.33x IIIL that I think would fit nicely with the RS4500. It's probably the only other alternative to the Panamorph you have now. However a brand new 1.25x ISCO is going to be a lot more expensive than the Panamorph. Though the IIIL is no slouch and is by far the nicest 1.33x anamorphic lens I've personally seen and I've seen just about all of them.
My guess is that it will work at that short of a throw. When using the ISCO IIIL, I could get almost to max zoom on my JVC (1.40) before vignetting started to occur. The 1.25x lens is quite a bit larger so I would imagine it could accommodate that short of a throw. Craig, I think you're not familiar with how large these ISCO lenses actually are. Schneider/ISCO claim a 25% increase in brightness through the 1.25x lens. ISCO also says the glass alone weighs 3500 grams (7.72 pounds) while the glass and housing together is 11 pounds. Compare this to the Panamorph lens at only 3.6 pounds including the stand. I'm not trying to diminish the DCR lens, I'm sure it's nice, but I don't think the lens quality itself is as good as the ISCO 1.25x. But then again the ISCO should be nicer as it MSRPs for over $17,000.If you're looking to gain as much brightness as you can, I'm sure the DCR lens is better suited for the task compared to the ISCO 1.25x, but optical resolution through the ISCO is more than likely unmatched anywhere.
