I'm sure they love laser dimming as it is super precise and smooth without dealing with a motor that is in constant movement.
The problem with dimming is with the subs: since they are 100% bright (at least with SDR material), dimming either does not turn on, or there is a lot of pumping. That's what I see on a RS400, I can't imagine how it would be different with laser dimming?
It wouldn't be (I see the same on my RS600), but frankly I couldn't care less about "pumping" on subs, they're not part of the scene/frame IMO, they're a viewer aid. It's the same with credits, I couldn't care less, if the only place I see pumping is on text overlays, then IMO a dynamic illumination system is working fine, and I'm completely happy with it.
I find that placing the subtitles within the video frame dramatically helps with this. Though not all players allow you change the position of the subtitles so ymmv.
I remux my movies with the subs placed in the video frame, but it still pumps.
Get that puppy up and running !
What projector ?
I use a CM340 lift... so easy...
