Thanks for the feedback.. I need to experiment myself.  Have you had your unit calibrated? If so are you using a setting that implements a curve generated via the Arve tool in conjunction with the Oppo tone mapping?

i have not had it calibrated....and you do not use an avres curve in conjunction with the oppo...you use gamma 2.4 (i think that is what you were saying) with the oppo tone mapping

but i WAS using a custom curve....but no longer

The difference between the UB900 to the Oppo 203 as I have them both as well lies in the Panny's "Precision Chroma sampling".  It is more notable w/ projectors than w/ flat panel displays but the Panny renders a touch better shadow detail and slightly better color saturation IMO.  However, I am curious to see how the Oppo's new tone mapping functions work w/ UHD material b/c, for me, it could tilt me back towards the Oppo for my RS4500.  Right now for my setup it's perfect b/c I get to utilize the DV function of the Oppo on my OLED and the Panny strictly with my PJ, which is where it outshines the Oppo, at least to me.   Again though how good is the tone mapping w/ the Oppo and if I buy a Lumagen Pro then none of it matters ;0

I know right?  Need to see how the tone mapping works on it though first.  However, knowing Panasonic's reputation I am sure it'll be quite good.

Agreed, I think the 820 is going to be an interesting player.  I wonder if they can take the tone mapping to another level.

This might be stupid but could you in theory run the UB900 through the 203 HDMI in and use the Oppos tone mapping whilst utilizing the pannys chroma sampling or will the chroma sampling be done by the Oppo too? Thinking out loud here and I assume that you have to either use the Oppo as strictly pass through or allow it to do all of the "work" including the chroma sampling, but never hurts to ask right?

The thing with the Pro is that the work is being done within the 3D LUT as well, so you not only get great tone mapping, you get correct colour mapping too, so there is the potential for perfection.  The Oppo isn't doing this.  Of course, there is no dynamic HDR on the Pro yet... but it is promised.

Yep, the Radiance Pro provides you with the best HDR performance that you currently can get with HT equipment.

Could be awhile. Denon indicated the new HDMI chips won't be available for at least a year.

An upgradable input board for the projector would make it easier to swallow the $35k price tag in the meantime
