I've watched 26 so far, some (like Prometheus) multiple times.

I have another 43 that I've 'checked-out' or sampled (but not fully watched).

And I have 148 unopened. :)

WOW ! Winter is coming - good time to catch up on a few !

Since getting the Z1 i am re visiting a lot of my 1080P Blurays....

The difference between my previous X9500 and the Z1 with 1080P Blurays is quite pronounced!!
The image is so much more "clean" and "Detailed" ... the artefacts that i thought were in the 1080P source were in fact the E-shift noise!

To the point actually that some of the pristine 1080P films get horribly close to the 4K UHD presentations. I am  feeding the Z1 1080P upscaled to 4K via MadVR from my HTPC..

I'm waiting now to read reviews of 4K re-masters. I love " The Lincoln Lawyer ", but the 4K BR doesn't sound much better than the BR, so on those that are only a little bit better, I'll pass !

So I now have a Lumagen Pro.   OMG, what a difference it makes.  All the titles I had some issues or complaints about, but that were well respected/reviewed now look terrific.  The shadow detail I'm seeing is just incredible - like a veil has just been lifted.

And no more audio delay with my cable feed...!

HUGE thank you to Kris Deering; he helped me improve the image before with the Arve Tool and when he claimed that the Lumagen took it to another level, I took the plunge and he wasn't kidding.

So do you still use the custom gamma curves with the Lumagen Pro ?

Nope.  No dynamic range on the Panny either.

Nope.  No dynamic range on the Panny either.

The custom gamma curves made using that on the Panny un-necessary. Ya, must resist buying one right now. And you aren't making that any easier !

Any pro model will work. They get more expensive if you want to use them for video switching. I still use my preprocessor for switching so the more entry level one works great. Jim at Lumagen is excellent to work with.

I'm using mine for switching since my pre/pro doesn't do 4k and there isn't any 4k pro/pro out there that I would buy.

I bought the 4 in, 2 out model.     Two of the inputs are 18ghz (and can handle HDR sources) and the other two are 9ghz for SDR sources.

Of the two outputs, it's sort of like the Panasonic: 1 output is 18ghz video/audio and the other is audio only.   I feed the the audio output to my pre/pro.

I haven't seen ChadB's magic yet so I can't comment on whether the Lumagen is superior to his custom curves, but what I like about the Lumagen is that it has 2 HDR curves and automatically uses one over the other based on how the content was mastered.

I am  feeding the Z1 1080P upscaled to 4K via MadVR from my HTPC..

I have a couple questions for you if you don't mind answering.

1) Do you know if you're feeding the projector RGB signal vs something like 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 from your PC?

2) Does madVR offer anything like Darby processing for 1080p sources?

I'm not woofer, but I can answer your questions.

1.) You can choose between RGB and YUV output modes.

2.) Yes, MadVR has several different sharpening options available and most of them are of the highest quality available. Remember though, you'll need a graphics card fast enough for the video processing. NGU Sharp via MadVR is by far the best scaling algorithm out there by a decent margin. It knocks the pants off anything the Lumagen can do. But it is of course limited to what a PC can playback. So you can't use it with cable TV. Just DVD, blu-ray, 3D blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray ripped to your PC. Though I suspect you'd only want the highest quality scaling and rendering for the highest quality source material anyways so I don't think it's of any consequence it won't work with cable TV. As they say, garbage in, garbage out. No amount of quality video processing can fix a bad looking source.

Spot on.... :)

For 1080 HD playback i doubt you can better a HTPC with MadVR...BUT you NEED the highest spec components...I am running a modded Nvida 1080ti and even that cannot run the highest settings.
