Epson has announced a few new models and I find the 5040UB and 6040UB as great options at their price points. The 5040 is the consumer side and the 6040 is sold on the pro side. The specs between the two are nearly identical so i will talk about the 5040. This projector has greatly increased calibrated light output over the previous 5030. Other improvements are DCI P3 color space and the ability to play 4k UHD BD's and display HDR. Pricing on this projector is $2,999.Manufacturer's link to 5040: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/Product.do?sku=V11H713020Projector Review's blog on the new 5040 & 6040: Epson HC 5040UB and PC 6040UB Projectors w/4K Support, Announced At CE - Projector Reviews:http://www.projectorreviews.com/the-art-of-home-theater-projectors/epson-hc-5040ub-pc-6040ub-projectors-w4k-support-announced-ce/Cine4home's review: http://cine4home.de/epsons-neue-eh-tw7300-9300w-im-cine4home-preview-test/User manual: http://www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/projector_manual_9498.pdfBoth 5040 and 6040 are available from AV Science.
Very seriously considering replacing my 6010 with the 6040. I've seen the 6040 locally, and I'm really impressed with the image created by the pixel shifting. My local dealer doesn't have a working UHD setup yet, so I haven't seen any 4K HDR content yet. I've been reading up on the different 4K HDR formats (HDR 10 & Dolby Vision), so I think I understand the advantages of each and realize that the 6040 can play only HDR10. What are the chances that Epson could release an affordable Dolby Vision compatible projector anytime in the near future? Will anybody?
The ProjectorReviews review talked about a wireless HD version of the 5040, but I didn't see any mention of the 6040. Is there a version of the 6040 with wireless HD capability? I see from discussions on other forums that the wireless chip in the 5040 has higher bandwidth.
There is no 6040UBe. Not sure why. I even double checked at Epson's website.
I visited my local dealer today to check out their 6040, but they were having connection problems. Turned out to be a bad HDMI cable, but at one point the projector displayed a message indicating it thought it had a wireless HD signal. This indicates to me that the 6040 has the internal circuitry and firmware for wireless HD. Just need the wireless adapter.
Very happy to say I took full advantage of the Black Friday Special on the 5040 from Mike at AV Science sales. Can't wait to get this unit set up. Thanks Mike!!!
