Here is a nice graphic showing the difference between an 80" flat panel TV showing a scope movie, vs a scope movie on my 128" diagonal 2.35:1 Stewart Studiotek 130 screen. The 80" flat panel is way too small!

And another one showing the full 80" 16:9 flat panel TV vs my Stewart Cima Neve 122" diagonal 16:9 screen -

Here is a great chart ( thanks to Arrow AV / Nigel ) showing whether a particular resolution will show benefits from a certain distance / screen size. I'm well into the 4K distance / screen size.

Here is a link to a handy website, where you can compare screen sizes -

New member, just joined.

Thank you Craig for posting this.

I am building my own screen and am tired of making “to scale” sketches and Pythagorean theorem calcs!  ( Yep, I’m an engineer).
This site allows for quick and visual comparisons which is extremely useful.

cheers,

Hugo

The website does come in handy - glad it's helpful for someone other than me !

For me, it’s a bit of a Godsend as far as quick visuals.  I have a 12’-5” wide bonus room above a garage. Realtors here call that a “Frog” (front room over garage). The screen size was a real issue because this space has knee walls. Not sure what they are called on your side but think “Dutch barn”.

So while I have a decent width it only goes up in the vertical to 62” and then the walls angle inward such that I only have roughly 82” flat horizontal on the ceiling. Ceiling height it 96” at that point.

So my screen selection became a matter of managing width to height as I didn’t want to get closer than 22-24” to the floor.  The quick calcs on the site allow me to see the change in height as I try to go wider.  For me, it made the choice to go with a 115” diagonal 16:9 screen optimal.  I watch a lot of college football so that made sense but I did teeter back and forth between 2:35 vs 1.78 as I’m sure most everyone does.

Anyway, thank you again. Heading over to the introduction thread now.

cheers,

Hugo
