Great looking HT, Mike! Your equipment list is impressive. Is this a 2nd floor build? Did you incorporate any sound isolation into the build to help contain those massive subs?
Mike, how does a baffle wall compare to having your speakers spaced out from the wall like a traditional stereo setup? Do you get the same depth, and soundstage...is there anything special to take into consideration when building a baffle wall setup? I have thought about converting my setup to one.
Rather than type of something, I will just provide you with a link listing the advantages.http://www.acousticfrontiers.com/2013322baffle-walls/Yes, there are things you have to take into account, with a baffle wall. A lot of speakers have baffle step compensation built into the crossover. This means they could be boomy, when placed in a baffle wall. Though room correction would help that. If you are building speakers, then, just do not add baffle step compensation to the crossover.
Mike, I have a question for you. Normally when people setup their room they angle the speakers, but I noticed with a baffle wall they don't...is there a reason they don't do this with a baffle wall? Would it be counterproductive to design the wall after the speakers were aimed conventionally, and make the wall conform to the speakers being angled?
Mike, that's an incredible room! Love it. Hope my room turns out half as nice....
A lot of times, baffle walls are angled. Some even do a curve. My baffle wall is angled for the right and left mains. http://discuss.avscience.com/?topic=124.msg905#msg905
Great build Mike and thank you for all the info you have shared in this thread. Your baffle wall will serve as inspiration for my next build!
