watched The girl on the train 4k.

good movie...disagree with alot of the reviews!  I enjoyed it...the 4k was nice but this was meant to be dark...so it was in fact a bit on the dark side...but crystal clear

I'm going to diverge in the opposite direction.  Last nite I watched Apollo 13 on DVD.  The OPPO did a fine job of rendering this to 2160 and my A3060 made the occasional "flash sound" slam me  right into the story -- and what a story!  I kept having to remind myself that this wasn't just another sensational movie -- it was history!  As Gene Kranz stated at re-entry, "This will be our finest hour!"

Many years ago I was in a leadership class at IBM.  Apollo 13 was used during a 3-day session with outstanding examples of the leadership shown by that crew and the support team.  It was a marvel how much of that class came back to me so many years later.  That quote was one of the examples.

Aw-w-w!  I couldn't resist.  Just ordered Apollo 13 in blu ray DTS HD MA!  $5.99!

I agree that The Girl on the Train on UHD was better than I had expected.  Emily Blunt was great in her role.  I watched half in HDR and the other half in BT.2020 SDR from my Oppo.   The SDR helped with the dark scenes.

Tonight I watched Independence Day in UHD and HDR.   I was surprised how good it looked for its age.  The DTS:X soundtrack really surprised me; one of the best I have heard so far.

I didn't think I would want to purchase it so I rented it from http://www.store-3d-blurayrental.com/

I decided that some discs I have purchased will never get watched a second time so renting will help me decide for those that are not a sure thing got-to-have.

I watched the girl on the train and thought it was a pretty good movie and thought it looked excellent in 4k uhd on the Oppo 203/ JVC RS-500.

Quite the movie, huh Craig?  It's definitely Quentin T stuff....I enjoyed it, but a couple scenes made me cringe....lol

" Quite the movie " - you can say that again! I need to watch " Kill Bill "again before making my mind up on his best movies, but I still think Pulp Fiction is my favorite, followed by Django Unchained .

Since it's raining here in Northern California, I decided it was a good day for a Sunday afternoon Western matinee. And so some friends came over and we watched one of my very favorite Westerns - " The Big Country ". Just as great as I remembered !

Thanks -- if I ever saw The Big Country, it was as a kid sometime after original release.  Even after reading the review, I can't remember if I saw it or just saw previews (aka, trailers).

Big western fan!  I just watched the original Magnificent Seven a few days ago.  (Although I also saw the original original Seven Samurai back in my college days.  That was billed as "The Magnificent Seven" -- what a disappointment until we all fought through the grainy film projected on a wall with subtitles and got into the movie.  Then it was quite a hoot!)

A couple years ago, my wife gave me the three bluray set of The Magnificent Seven, Butch and Sundance, and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.  I haven't watched the latter two on my new setup yet, so some fine viewing yet to come.

It's cheap enough on Amazon to add this Blu Ray to your collection. It's really an interesting character study.

I too have the original Magnificent Seven, The Wild Bunch, 3:10 to Yuma ( recent one ), True Grit ( recent one ), The Cowboys and The Comancheros ( classic John Wayne ), The Professionals,  Quigley Down Under ( fun movie ), and The Man With No Name Trilogy. At this point, I'm considering that The hateful Eight and Django Unchained are also " westerns " ( at least that's where they are on my shelf ) !

We have finally stepped up and started watching Game of Thrones -- Atmos version!  Awesome soundtrack!  We ended up doing 5 episodes.  Will soon have to get the second season (that was an outright requiement from LOML after getting started).

I read the books about 10 years ago, so I need to start over.  And at that time Martin had not yet written the last book.  These are the kinds of things that make life worth living...   ;D

Been watching Homeland - Season 5 on Blu Ray. So far it's a great season. Not quite 1/2 way through it.
