On August 25, the hyperviolent Japanese karate and swordplay cult sensation Shogun’s Ninja arrives on Blu-ray. The film marks the first starring role for Hiroyuki Sanada (Ring, John Wick: Chapter 4, Shogun) and was directed by Norifumi Suzuki (Wandering Ginza Butterfly). The Limited Edition release features a High Definition (1080p) Blu-ray presentation, hours of special features, and newly commissioned extras.
During Japan’s Warring States era, warlord Toyotomi Hideyori (Asao Koike, G.I. Samurai) invades Iga province in search of the hidden gold of the Momochi clan. Acting on his ruler’s orders, the vicious Shiranui Shōgen (Sonny Chiba, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair) will stop at nothing to claim it. After a decade in exile, Takamaru Momochi (Hiroyuki Sanada, Avengers: Endgame) returns to Iga and rallies warriors once loyal to his father, training them in the ninja arts to free their homeland. Packed with over-the-top action, including tree-top ninja battles and a deadly female bodyguard unit, Shogun’s Ninja also stars Etsuko Shihomi (Sister Street Fighter) and Tetsurō Tanba (You Only Live Twice), with Sonny Chiba serving as stunt director alongside his Japan Action Club.
Special features include original lossless mono Japanese and English-dubbed mono audio; optional English subtitles; a brand new audio commentary by Asian cinema expert Chris Poggiali; a brand new interview with Japanese cinema expert Clément Rauger; and a collectors’ booklet.
