Plot
The captivating true story of Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward (Robert Redford) and Carl Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman) and their mission to get the story—and get it right—about Watergate and how it ultimately drove a U.S. president from office.

My Thoughts
Anyone who read my posts in the forum knows my political leanings, but despite my partisan beliefs there's one thing I can't stand for and that's corruption. In the case of Richard Nixon, the guy was a crook—despite his protests to the contrary—and he never deserved to be elected to the office of the President nor a vice-presidential candidate after misleading his constituents with his "Checkers" speech in 1952 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkers_speech) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkers_speech).

As a film, All The President's Men is brilliant as it follows super reporters Woodward and Bernstein as they unravel the mystery behind the Watergate break-in at the DNC. The casting is terrific with Redford and Hoffman in the lead roles, supported by Jason Robards' commanding turn as Ben Bradlee and an ensemble of background players that brings the newsroom to life. This is a film that never gets old for me, having watched it multiple times over the years. At 138 minutes the film never drags, thanks to William Goldman’s razor-sharp script that keeps the suspense high even when the onscreen action is just a couple of men talking on the phone or knocking on doors.

Warner has given this the A-list treatment with a brand-new 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative. Detail is exquisite in the newsroom clutter, cigarette smoke, and Washington exterior scenes. Colors are accurate and show subtle enhancement over the Blu-ray when making a direct side-by-side comparison, particularly in the muted greens of the garage and the warm tones of the Post offices. Contrast is rich, delivering deep blacks that reveal plenty of shadow detail in the dimly lit parking structures and late-night meetings. This is by far the best the film has ever looked on home video.

The audio remains the same DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 mono track from the Blu-ray. Dialogue is crisp and clear, the newsroom bustles with ambient activity, and the mix stays faithful to the original with no harshness or artifacts. While it lacks the presence of a modern production it sounds as expected for a 1976 film.

Conclusion
I love seeing these older films get some 4K love and Warner delivers a reference-quality video presentation that makes the 1970s newsroom feel alive and authentic. The film is timeless in its storytelling featuring how journalism is supposed to be conducted versus the slop that’s produced today with cheerleaders instead of umpires. If you love political thrillers, history, or just great filmmaking, this is a must-own disc. Highly recommended.

“Follow the money”

This is a great movie and I have it on Blu-ray with the 4K on order. “Follow the money” was never said in teal life but was used in the movie and was created by the writer William Goldman. Not only as this line become famous and used in other movies. I’ve heard it used in real life. it’s totally accurate when looking at corruption, just follow the money.
