If you like the super-hero movies of the Marvel Universe, I would rate this Ias “Good.” Not VERY GOOD or GREAT. But an enjoyable film. If you ae not into super-hero movies, this movie is NOT for you.
I saw it in a Dolby Atmos theater on Tuesday, with about 30 people in the audience. The picture was wonderful, the surround sound was fine but not impressive.
First, as the highest ranked Mavel Age fan, I have to great adjust to modern times and movies and I do have trouble. Let me give you examples of characters in this movie:
Bucky Barnes: Was Captain America’s teen-age sidekick. At age about 15, he dies in a plot by Baron Zemo and the Red Skull in Avengers #4, March 1964. Here, he is a 90 year old congressman.
The Red Guardian: Seen here is an older, overweight former hero who is the father of the Black Weidow and her sister. Originally, he was young, in great shape, and was the Black Widow’s husband, who was trained to battle Captain America to the death. (Avengers #43-44, Aug-Sept. 1967)
Valentina Allegra de Fontaine: Was a SHIELD Agent and Nick Fury’s young and beautiful Girlfriend. She was known as Val and first appeared in Strange Tales #159, august 1967. FAMOUSLY, she seduces Nick Fury in a one-page scene that was CENSORED by the comics code. Naturally I put that up. Here she is an older woman, not part of SHIELD and is working against authorities.
SHIELD: Is not even mentioned here, they use the FBI and CIA, although Val was a SHIELD agent.
The plot revolves around four characters, three of them are Captain America clones, Bucky, The Red Guardian and the Cap from the streaming series. The fourth, is the new Black Widow, played very well, by Florence Pugh, who always makes sure that she has blue eye make on before getting into a fight.
In some ways it is two movies. First, how the four first fight and then get together and realize they have been manipulated by Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Val. At least she didn’t want to teach them how to dance!!!! (That's a Seinfeld referance)
Once again, there is punching, hitting, kicking, buildings falling, cars crashing, and no one is hurt, or even badly scratched.
Then, reminding me of the Suicide Squad, they unite with Bucky and go after the real bad guys and are introduced to a new super villain.
You’ve kind of seen this before, but it’s fun.
Stay through the credits. There are two scenes, one mid-credits and lastly, the introduction of…ahhhh, you have to see it.
