Hello,
Please do not get me wrong, I have been very pleased with this unit (5 years). But lately the picture quality has not been that great (dimmer even with new lamp). I have never been satisfied with the HDR quality (though I have a Lumagen frontend processor: RP 5348. ).
Any suggestions/advise ?

What is your screen size material and distance? Do you have a dedicated room?
I’m very surprised u less you are taxing out the above distances that you should be unhappy with HDR with a lumagen in the chain

Like @bmoney, I'm curious about screen size and gain, because you should generally have a pretty good picture. I had an NX7, paired with an Envy rather than Lumagen, and it was quite good.
That said, because the "DD Board" issue can occur at any time in this series of projectors, you could end up having a worthless projector on-hand. I'd be inclined to sell it at a reasonable price, and move on.
I'd probably look at the NZ500/NZ700 projectors. Again depending on screen size and gain, to determine how many lumens you'd need to have, along with your budget, NZ800/NZ900 would be excellent as well, but at much greater cost.
I went from the NX7 to the NZ9, and it was fairly dramatic improvement in all respects. The greater brightness (I have a fairly large screen), and stability of the light output over time, were very welcome.

most of the failed DD boards happen within the first few months. so if he has had it past 5 years, odds are he is in the clear on that one

Probably, and hopefully, so! But the key word is "most", unfortunately. I do recall at least one report, possibly two, where it occurred long after.
But I agree, the odds are likely in his favor. That said, I think there would be a big gain going to an NZ500/NZ700, regardless.

I think he should figure why his image isn’t up to snuff first. Then he could think about upgrades if he’s still not satisfied

If you've got the budget available I don't think there's any way you'd regret moving up to one of the newer gen laser illuminated models. JVC keeps pushing the limits!

i thought you were trying to see if it was necessary. For me. If I have the means. And am not happy or wondering what if. I’m going upgrade all day long :)

As discussed on the phone, the RS3200 is a pretty good step up from your current projector.

Laser and native 4K was a game changer for me. I'd say go for it.

I find it difficult giving the best advice when I haven’t seen the equipment or discuss this with the owner.
End 2019 I had an RS 3000 and I was satisfied with it. I now have the RS 4100, which is a laser projector. It is noticeably better than the 3000. I first have a brighter picture that shows more detail. The colors are more distinct, and I am surprised that the laser projector gives me a better black-and-white image than I expected. It is only slightly quieter though. I have a 110 inch diagonal screen. When I watch a 4K movie, I really feel that I’m watching a movie theater screen. the 3200 would be a step up and a good one.

True. Laser really changed things - no lamp strikes, no lamps to change. That was the final piece of the puzzle.

I’m actually reviewing the 2200/700 later this week. From what I saw at Cedia and initial reports from new owners it is the “sweet spot” in the JVC line up. I’m excited.
