Plot
In the edgy comedy Anyone But You, Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) look like the perfect couple, but after an amazing first date something happens that turns their fiery hot attraction ice cold -- until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia. So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple.
My Thoughts
I’ve enjoyed Glen Powell’s last few films and requested this one thinking my wife would really enjoy it. Wow was I wrong. The film is loosely based on Much Ado About Nothing, but it’s filled with so many cliches of the genre and poor chemistry between the leads that it was very hard to stomach. The dialog is a bit forced and overtly crude due to lazy writing and the slapstick humor fell very flat.
The film was shot in Australia and that’s probably the highlight of the experience. The on location filming is very inviting and the stellar video encode from Sony certainly helps things. The DTS-HD MA 5.1 track doesn’t really stand out in any particular way, but given the genre, this is expected.

Conclusion
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Sadly, this one was the latter. Romantic comedies need to have chemistry between the leads and there just wasn’t any here. Frankly, I really didn’t like Sweeney’s character one bit, which probably is why I didn’t enjoy the film. Oh well.
