Rating: PG-13
Film:  2.5/5

Plot
Four lifelong friends set out on an unforgettable journey to see their hero Tom Brady play in Super Bowl LI and witness one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, discovering that it's never too late to live life to the fullest.

My Thoughts
I love NFL football about as much as I love watching movies, so you need to take that into account when reading this review. The story is very loosely based on a true story—that is, there was an older group of ladies that watched Patriots day games of their love of the sport (or so my wife told me—she read about it in the newspaper at some point). I guess there were five women in the original group while the movie only has four.

With that in mind, we sat down to watch the film expecting it to be entertaining given the older all-star cast. Out of the gate, I tip my hat to Sally Field who looks great and natural—she doesn’t look like she’s had a lot of work done over the years. Jane Fonda is the polar opposite—she looks like a mannequin you’d find in a department store. Frankly, I’ll take Field’s look over Hanoi Jane’s any day, but that’s just me. Lily Tomlin and Rita Moreno fall somewhere in between the two, but much closer to Field and to fake Fonda.

The film itself has some fun moments, but even at 98 minutes it drags in quite a few places. There just isn’t a whole lot of meat on the bone of the script and some of the shenanigans feel a bit forced and unnatural. Once they finally get to the actual game—which is one of the best in Super Bowl history—it becomes a lot more fun to watch. I love the pep talk Tomlin gives Brady to inspire the comeback (sorry for the spoiler) and there are a couple of more touching moments that do have a lot of heart, but I’m not sure it’s something I’d watch again.

The presentation is exactly what you’d expect from this type of film. The video quality is clean and clear, colors are well-saturated, and there really isn’t nothing to complain about. The Dolby Atmos track isn’t reference quality in nature because it’s never asked to do much more than compliment the story.

Conclusion
My mom is 80 years old and actually went out to the theater to see the film and while she didn’t hate it, she didn’t love it either. My wife and I felt much the same way. Tomlin’s story is the most compelling of the four although we liked Field’s character the most. If you’re a football fan looking for some laughs and keep your expectations in check, it’s an enjoyable way to spend 90 or so minutes, but it won’t be something you’d likely revisit anytime soon.
