This was an iTunes .99 special this week and with Brendan Gleeson being in a couple of interesting movies on our radar lately, we gave it a shot. Loosely based on a true story, Diane Keaton is a recently widowed woman living in an upscale community who discovers Gleeson's eccentric character squatting on a piece of land that is targeted for developing a luxury apartment development.
My wife liked the "nice story". I thought Keaton & Gleeson were about the only things to recommend it. It's a trite, shallow and formulaic treatment from dialog to soundtrack, and the secondary characters might as well have literally been cardboard cutouts for all the (lack of) depth given them. It's coincidence, but we watched Where the Crawdads Sing right after this which is also about an outsider interacting and conflicting with mainstream society. While this does have some nice scenery too, WtCS is FAR superior fare on every level IMO. Pass if you get the chance, unless you like stories that are only 1 step above Hallmark channel fodder.
