Plot
SEASON 1
THE BOYS is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes — as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods — abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the superpowerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven” and their formidable Vought backing.
SEASON 2
In a more intense Season 2 of THE BOYS, Butcher, Hughie, and the team reel from their losses in Season 1. On the run from the law, they struggle to fight back against the superheroes. Meanwhile, Vought, the hero management company, cashes in on the panic over supervillains; and a new hero, Stormfront, shakes up the company and challenges an already unstable Homelander.
My Thoughts
When The Boys made its debut on Amazon, my son and his friends raved about how good it was with its fresh approach on the superhero genre. Not wanting to be left out of the conversation, I decided to give the show a look and they were completely right. When asked how to describe the show, I would always say—imagine the Avengers or The Justice League members without having a moral compass—that sums up the show perfectly.
In season one we get to know the main characters and their backstories, which really reveal their motivations. Season two is about payback and it’s a David vs. Goliath tale—how can the non-super enabled be able to take down such a powerful corporation and the superheroes who protect it? Let’s just say that David has a few tricks up his sleeve.
The show definitely looks better on disc than streaming it through Amazon Prime. There’s more depth in the image and its never bit-starved. The same can be said with the audio, which is more nuanced and has greater dynamics. Streaming has come a long way over the past five years, but it still can’t match the overall A/V quality found on discs.

Conclusion
Season 3 premiers in June 2022 on Amazon and I’m sure this release is meant to drum up interest from those who haven’t seen the show. If you’re a fan of the genre, then definitely put this on your “must watch” list. Sure, it’s cynical look at the genre, but its fresh take is so well done it’s hard not to have a good time. Just so you know, this is a show for adults and younger audiences should not be subjected to the dark themes. Highly recommended.
