Escape from Mogadishu Blu-Ray
Studio: Well Go USA
Release Date: 2021
Rating: Not rated
Film:4/5
Plot: Based on the true story about both North and South Korean diplomats trying to woo the Somali government to back their admittance into the UN in 1991. The story takes place right before and during the rebel warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid’s storming of the Somali capitol ( the same Aidid that we fought a year later in Black Hawk Down ). The resulting chaos forces the North Koreans to team up with the South Koreans ( reluctantly ) to survive and escape Somalia.
My Thoughts – I found this film extremely well done. There is very good character development and the history I found fascinating. I had no idea both Koreas were active lobbying African nations to get into the UN – even after the Seoul Olympics. The rebel takeover of Mogadishu is harrowing!
Video – 4/5 Shot on video, this is an overall sharp and clean disc. Very dark scenes looked a little noisy at times, but other than that, a clean problem free disc.
Audio – 4/5 The Korean DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is very good ( there is some English on this ). Bass / LFE was fairly strong al times. Overall, a good soundtrack.
Conclusion – an extremely interesting South Korean historical action film. Recommended!
