I did not enjoy “Living With The Ricardos,” the story of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, mostly because I thought it was very bad casting. This may be an unusual way to start a review, because, frankly, I had read reviews praising the talent and the writing. It is on Amazon Prime.
Nicole Kidman needs to play two roles, Lucille Ball and the TV character of Lucy Ricardo, Javier Bardem plays Desi and Ricky. Both failed to me. I never got completely into the picture because they never disappeared into their parts.
Kidman is just not funny and there are times in the McVie that she needs to be. And she especially was not funny the way Lucy was. To me, she was a pale imitation of the two Lucys. Both of them.
Bardem, a great actor, does not seem to have the “on-stage” talent that Desi has. He is not an exciting singer.
The story here allegedly takes place during one week of the filming of “I Love Lucy.” But there are many flashbacks into the start of their relationship. Also, the movie throws into that one week Lucy’s pregnancy and Communist accusations which came at a different time.
The feud between William Frawley and Vivian Vance is portrayed here, but it is underdeveloped. I wanted to know how it started. I know that Gale Gordon was their first choice for Fred, but he was booked on another show. Vance and Lucy sometimes had a stressed relationship, buts he appeared in four of Lucy’s shows they must have had a closer relationship than the one shown here.
I respect the opinions of our group so I am interested in your opinions. I give it 2 pout of five stars.

Barry, I've seen this on my Amazon feed, but am wrapped up watching other shows and movies. It will be at least a month until I get to it, but the way you describe it doesn't make me want to watch it very much!
