mother! 4K Blu-ray
Studio: Paramount Pictures
Release Date: Dec 19, 2017
Rating: R
Film:4.5/5 ( in my opinion ), but some will hate this movie.

Plot: A couple live in and renovate a country home. Soon, a mysterious couple arrives and turns their life upside down.

My Thoughts: this is an amazing horror film that actually is ( from Wikipedia ) an allegory; the film "depicts the rape and torment of Mother Earth ... I represent Mother Earth; Javier, whose character is a poet, represents a form of God, a creator; Michelle Pfeiffer is an Eve to Ed Harris's Adam, there's Cain and Abel and the setting sometimes resembles the Garden of Eden". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother!

Having read that prior to watching this film helped me understand the plot better. The Christ child is even depicted. That’s all I’ll say. My guests and I thought it was gripping and highly emotionally charged. They want to view it again. That said, this is a disturbing Darren Aronofsky horror film. If you didn’t like or admire ( as a film ) Requiem for a Dream, you probably won’t like this film either. If you enjoy hard core horror mixed with labyrinth plots ( like Tenet ), you might like this.

Video – 7 / 10 Shot on 16mm film, this was never going to be super sharp or glossy - 4K or not. There is a bit of film grain – more in some scenes than others, but overall it fits the film. Detail and color good very good considering the source.

Audio – 9 / 10 The audio track was extremely effective. When there is bass / LFE, it’s strong and adds to the emotional effect. Mostly a dialog driven film, but the 2nd half the Dolby Atmos track hammers you pretty hard. Good use of surround channels !

Conclusion: One of the most unusual horror films I’ve ever seen. I took me 2 ½ years to make up my mind to actually acquire it and watch it. I’m glad I did – but non horror film buffs beware. I think it’s brilliant, but based on other reviews, you’ll either love it or hate it.

Thanks Craig....I'm not a horror fan at all, so I'll avoid this one :)
