We discuss action-adventure films all the time, but here is a switch: Are there any movies that, as an adult, brought tears to your eyes? (Bambi did it when I was a kid). There are probably more, but four did it for me.
Field of Dreams:
At the end, when Kevin Costner has a catch with his father, who was wearing a Yankee cap. Just as my father did.
Schindler’s List:
I actually prepared myself for this, but the last ten minutes of the movie…well, I lost it.
Toy Story II: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElhbTsKsros (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElhbTsKsros)
“When She Loved Me.” This was just a cartoon about toys, but this got to me.
Star Wars: The Lat Jedi:
Simply, at the end credits this appeared and it got to me: “ "In Loving Memory of Our Princess, Carrie Fisher." May the force be with you, Carrie.

Good list. Agree with your thoughts above.
I can't remember a lot that have moved me but a few like "Green Mile" and "Up" come to mind.
-
Totally agree Barry on your choices. The Toy Story song gets me every time too even though I've seen that movie hundreds of times (literally, my son watched it every day for nearly 2 years when he was a kid...he LOVED Buzz Lightyear!).

A beautiful mind
Field of Dreams
Marley in Me (will NEVER watch that again wtf)
Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Pollyana
-Man Im a softy lol
I know there are WAY more
-
Pan's Labyrinth is one.
-
The Art of Racing in the Rain
-
Les Miserables. Seeing the play, listening to the Music alone, or the movie. Every. Single. Time.
-
Seven Pounds
-
Yes on Toy Story. The scene where Andy's toys find a new home gets me as well as the first time I saw Dobbie the (Free) House Elf die on Harry Potter.
WOW, my testosterone must be low. ::)
-
How about in Toy Story 3 when all the toys are headed towards the incinerator? Gets me every time.

a star is born - i wept.

I've been rewatching LOTR with the new 4K release. There are 3 scenes that always make me tear up in different ways.
TTT: When Gimli tells Eowyn that Aragorn has fallen, her reaction really gets me. (Kudos Miranda Otto on a restrained by very effective portrayal of how gutted she feels.)
TTT: The arrival and charge of Gandalf and the Rohirrim.
ROTK: When the signal fires are lit and the swirling panoramic views follow them across the mountain range.

Another LOTR scene is the end of Fellowship when Sam refuses to let Frodo leave alone. Always tears me up.

Mine from LotR is when the whole
Of Gondor bow to the hobbits.

Any movie on a plane...literally ANY! Haha
-
I agree. "Sully" is one that I can think of. :)

I forgot the #1 tearjerker...my wedding video :D (after 30 years of marriage, I can joke about this right?) ;)

Not a joke. The events of this last week really did bring a tear to my eyes. This is not my America, this is not the country that I know. I know that this is not the place to discuss it, but I really did get tears.

Barry, the events since May 25 bring a tear to my eye. As soon as you let the lawbreakers get away with acting uncivil, you lose your civilization. All law breakers should be treated the same way, regardless of who they are and where they come from. Throw the damn book at them and make examples of them.
-
After the last 4 years, this week was merely the exclamation point at the end.
I've been re-watching " Band of Brothers ", and I think I'll re-watch " The Pacific " next. There were worse times to be alive than now, that's for sure.
-
I must say that re-watching Ready Player One with my wife last weekend brought a little tear to my eye - I'm a sucker for any kind of love story.
-
For kids today and especially those who saw it long time ago when it originally came out, "Bambi" brought lots of tears..

On that note. The end of Snow White gets me too
-
This topic also brought to me the book "Charlotte's Web" which I read as a kid and the movie adaptation was then animated. The ending still gets to me even thou I know the ending!
-
Not a movie, but one that was gut wrenching on the deepest level I've seen portrayed on screen: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 5 Ep 16. Buffy's mom dies and they did the episode in such a stark way, no soundtrack, just raw acting with no punches pulled. It absolutely tore me up.

Watched the recent live action Mulan last night. When she returns home in shame, despite having saved the Emperor and kingdom, and then the army captain shows up to honor her, I teared up.

I like that movie.

Watching " The Outpost " with friends that hadn't seen it last night definitely brought a tear to my eyes. It has a powerful gut wrenching ending. Great film.
