Studio: Warner
 Release Date: October 6, 2020
Rating:  PG
Film:  3.5/5

 Plot
Set to a new wave '80s soundtrack, a pair of young lovers from different backgrounds defy their parents and friends to stay together. A musical adaptation of the 1983 film.

 My Thoughts
In 1983, the original Valley Girl hit theaters starring a young Nicholas Cage and I’m surprised it was a movie that I never saw at the time. Here we are nearly 30 years later and a reimaging of the film is here and while I expected to find it quite cheesy, I discovered it to be a fun movie with some very good performances.

The screenplay is very interesting in how it retells the original story. It starts in modern times with a mother trying to connect with her teenage daughter going through her own breakup with her boyfriend. Mom retells the account of her own youth when the story flashbacks to the early 1980s and the “real” story begins. Needless to say, the music is awesome—especially if you grew up in the time period.

 Conclusion
While not a great film, it was much better than I expected it to be. That being said, if you aren’t a fan of musicals, you probably won’t like it. I really enjoyed the performances from Julie Richman and Josh Whitehouse and especially liked the 80’s tunes. Recommended for those looking for some nostalgic fun.
