Pretty much all of the original film grain was removed. I was not impressed.

I still think it looks better than the Blu-ray. And for $7.00, I bought it.

Yeah, I read reviews saying that. But for $7.50, and not having seen it before, I went ahead with it anyway.
-
Question on this - does this big price drop possibly hint at a revised, improved 4K release? This seems to be one of the early-ish 4K catalog releases with a lot of complaints from the mentioned film grain / DNR issue to having only the theatrical cut on the 4K disc.

I doubt it.

Considering this movie has been released on Blu-ray about 379 times, I'm sure we'll see multiple 4K editions in the coming years.

Now you are just exaggerating. Terminator has only been released 377 times on BD. :)

Pretty much all of the original film grain was removed. I was not impressed.
I just watched it the other night, and at times the grain reduction was quite noticeable, and somewhat distracting. I face similar issues when editing DSLR still photos that were shot at higher ISO, which results in increased grain and noise. There are tools to reduce the noise, but these have to be used conservatively. Used too much, and sure the noise is gone, but the results have a 'plastic' or 'waxy' appearance, with loss of detail.
So I agree - noise reduction was used a bit too much at times, with faces having that 'waxy' kind of appearance in places. But the detail was quite crisp at other times, with no ill effect from the overall noise reduction. I think that when the image in question is a bit out of focus in the original, the noise would be more evident, and when reduced, produces that waxy quality. But when the focus is crisp, the detail was really outstanding.
Regardless, I enjoyed the movie, and it was definitely worth $7.50! ;)

Ha ha - Shaun Of The Dead is a favorite, as it Hot Fuzz !

Ha ha - Shaun Of The Dead is a favorite, as it Hot Fuzz !
The Worlds End is a great movie as well, but you have to watch it blind...meaning no trailers or spoilers. If you do, the twist will literally blow your mind because it comes out of nowhere and it's completely unexpected. That was how I watched the film the first time and anyone else watching it with us, we make sure they know nothing about it so we can see their reaction...every time it happens it's priceless!
-
My order arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to viewing all three.
Doesn't seem like that long ago that I viewed a rental of World's End but I can't seem to recall the twist you mention. I guess that is a good thing.
-
Hmm that's tempting just for Shaun and Fuzz, I actually already have World's End on 4K but could just give it a good home.

Think of watching the movie knowing NOTHING about it other than some guys go on a pub crawl to relive old times and then the scene in the bathroom happens.

I really liked the movie. I may be in a small minority, but I kinda liked the movie better before the twist. Not that what happens was bad, but the comradery of the guys was just so much fun, and felt so real, that it was really the heart of the movie.
Still good, though.

Well, the rumored additional Best Buy titles never materialized; sorry about that.

For those of you that like the steelbooks, there are some titles in there for under $10.
Hope you find something to add to your collections!

Here's a link to Walmart's sale, for some they've partnered with Gruv. There are some great deals here, but certain titles, like Super Mario in 4K, keep going in and out of stock.
Still, there are other highlights, like the 4K versions of Elf, National Lampoon's Vacation, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Rebel Without a Cause, Casablanca for $9.99 each.
Their website isn't very user friendly, so you'll have to make sure you're getting the 4K version, and not the standard Blu-ray or plain old DVD.

And the Best Buy sale that was supposed to start yesterday finally started today.
To many titles to list, so here's a link to the Slickdeals site: 4K UHD Blu-ray Films: Super Mario Bros, Dungeons & Dragons, The Expendables Collection (slickdeals.net) (https://slickdeals.net/f/17051566-4k-uhd-blu-ray-films-super-mario-bros-dungeons-dragons-the-expendables-collection-10-each-more-free-s-h?src=frontpage)
Lots of titles to choose from.

I picked up Highlander and John Wick: 4 at Best Buy yesterday. Ordered online and picked them up at the store. I can finally retire my DVD copy of Highlander.

More 4K disc deals to be had, this time from Gruv:
3 Movies for $30 (https://www.gruv.com/category/4k_uhd_deals)
Black Friday Deals (https://www.gruv.com/category/black_friday_4k_uhd_deals_limited_time_only?utm_source=Gruv_Master&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Limited+Time+Black+Friday+4K+Deals!)
Some of these are repeats from the earlier sales, like Elf, Super Mario Brothers, Dune, Casablanca, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Elvis, for $10 each.
This has been a pretty good year for rounding out a collection.
-
There weren't a lot of great deals for movies today. Most of what's on sale has been Black-Friday priced all week.
There are a few minor deals trickling in from time to time. For example, John Wick 4 has been $14.99 for a while now, today it's down to $12.99: John Wick: Chapter 4 [4K UHD] (https://www.amazon.com/John-Wick-Chapter-4K-UHD/dp/B0BZ5DCBPZ/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=onZa0&content-id=amzn1.sym.0be9f546-3830-401c-87c5-62b24f2de1ea&pf_rd_p=0be9f546-3830-401c-87c5-62b24f2de1ea&pf_rd_r=ESVQZK9S11K0P2H6F002&pd_rd_wg=MFhHI&pd_rd_r=5c861d10-1587-4168-a2b7-bae7900380fc&ref_=pd_gw_dealz_cs)
I did stop at Walmart tonight to see if they might have anything of value and they had nothing at all. Normally, they would have displays with all kinds of movies, including some that weren't featured in their ads. Tonight, I couldn't even find a single display. So, they were either wiped out earlier or didn't have anything to begin with.
It seems like the nature of Black Friday movie sales may be changing, with sales starting earlier and shifting to online. With this being the last year for Best Buy, it will be interesting to see if Gruv picks up some extra business and if Walmart decides to do anything to compete with Amazon.
-
I did not go anywhere near a Wally World today. In my little town, I bet half the population was there today.
However, I too noticed that a good many movie titles were priced lower in the days prior to BF on many websites.
Additionally, the past two years, WM has priced all their vinyl records at $15. This year, they listed a very limited small handful of titles on sale but no $15 deals the week before BF. So, it's all media that's going primarily online.
I try and buy from my closest Mom & Pop record store when I can but there were several titles that I would not have paid regular retail ($28-$60) for especially given it's a 45-minute drive one way. That's an additional $18 in gas in my truck.
-
Looking through the BF ads there were no crazy sales. Used to have pages of movies and low prices. Now just things like buy 2 get 1. Etc
-
There are two sales going on right now that feature oddball titles, mostly obscure B movies, with a smattering of better-known movies like Hugo, Tremors, Robocop, and eXistenZ.
Christmas | Arrow Video US (https://www.arrowvideo.com/campaigns/christmas.list)
Vinegar Syndrome Limited Editions - In Stock (https://vinegarsyndrome.com/collections/ltd-instock?page=1)
Not everyone will find something there, but if you have a wildly eclectic collection, you might just find a hidden gem on sale right now.

Some new titles actually went up in price this week, Black Friday or no Black Friday. My wife says it's " surge pricing ".

There was a movie I wanted from Arrow, but I refuse to pay $5 for shipping when I know it costs half that to mail something. A 100% margin on shipping is a bit outrageous.

At Amazon right now: Lost Boys, The (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital) [4K UHD] (https://www.amazon.com/Lost-Boys-Ultra-Blu-ray-Digital/dp/B0B7PZDYFW/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1M4F1V6O7SDUZ&keywords=lost+boys+4k&qid=1702344062&sprefix=lost+boys+%2Caps%2C156&sr=8-1) is just $8.99.
That's the lowest price I've seen for this one.

Another Amazon low price - the original Poltergeist (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital) [4K UHD] (https://www.amazon.com/Poltergeist-Ultra-Blu-ray-Digital-UHD/dp/B0B7QFX32H/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2HP567XY1ULHY&keywords=poltergeist+4k&qid=1702519606&sprefix=polter%2Caps%2C137&sr=8-1) for just $8.49!

Best Buy seems to be clearancing out some of their 4K SteelBooks. Some titles are as low as $9.99, including Disney classics such as Snow White, The Lion King, Aladdin, Star Wars Episodes 4, 5, and 6, and others.
Here's a link: Best Buy 4K SteelBooks (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/select-steelbooks)
Quantities are limited, and copies may only be available in-store. Still, there are some bargains to be had. I picked up three to add to my collection.
-
With Best Buy dropping physical media this year, we're likely to see some bargains pop up, but they may be available in-store only.
For example, The Fifth Element (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/the-fifth-element-includes-digital-copy-4k-ultra-hd-blu-ray-2-discs-1997/5918300.p?skuId=5918300) is just $9.99 right now, as is Dr. Strangelove (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dr-strangelove-or-how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-the-bomb-4k-ultra-hd-blu-ray-1964/6465779.p?skuId=6465779).
Worth keeping an eye out for as they dispose of their stock.
-
As expected, Best Buy (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?id=pcat17071&qp=format_facet%3DFormat~4K Ultra HD) has added even more 4K movies to their ongoing clearance plans. There are even some Disney steelbooks this time, such as Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Lightyear, Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder, Strange World.
Availability is limited, and most titles aren't available for shipping, so it'll be luck of the draw if any title is available in a store close to you, but you can't beat these prices.

Sigh.
i am a completist. Especially of th Marvel Age. In fact, just this morning I was asked for ten scans of their comics. But I have given up. I will not be getting Marvels. After Eternals, Thor 4, and the bad streaming shows, I give up.

I hope you guys are getting some good 4K deals. The closest BB to me a about a 45 minute drive. At today's gas prices, it tacks on an additional $17 in fuel in my truck. :-\

Fortunately, I pass right by a Best Buy on my way home from work and they still have a pretty good amount of movies on their shelves, so it's working out well for me.
New deals are popping up each day, so it's definitely worth checking out for anyone within a certain distance. But you do have to figure in gas prices.

I mentioned in the Best Buy thread that there was a rumor out there that Walmart would be getting a bunch of their 4K SteelBooks and dumping them in their infamous $5 bins.
Well, I'm happy to report that the rumor is true. Checked out three stores tonight and my wife checked out one and only two had the deal, but what a deal it was.
Titles I saw included: Belly, Universal Soldier, Total Recall, Sicario, T2, Requiem for a Dream, 3 From Hell, Dirty Dancing, Hitman's Bodyguard and/or Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, Saw, Spiral, Chaos Walking, John Wick 2.
I probably missed some there, but you might want to take a shot at your local stores. There are no price tags on the movies, they're just in regular wrapping.
Happy hunting!

Gruv has some holiday titles on sale for $9.99 right now. Most are older titles, but just in case you missed them the last time they were on sale: Black Friday - 4K Holiday Movie Price Drop: $9.99 Each (https://www.gruv.com/category/4k_uhd_deals)

I've been waiting for the price to drop since it came out in 2022. Missed the deal this weekend at Walmart, but go figure, Amazon puts it on sale after Black Friday and Cyber Monday have passed.
I was going to add a link to David's review, but I couldn't find it and a search doesn't turn anything up. I do recall him liking it, though.

yeah and the emails are saying I deleted them! which is bizarre. I have since changed my password in case there is some bot doing it. hope that helps. there is no need for anything to be deleted....they are all invaluable reviews.
only things i actually delete are spam posts which happen from time to time.

I need to up my game to match what Scott's doing! He puts a lot more into his reviews than I do. Granted, I've been doing them for 20 years now and am a bit burned out. In total, I think I'm just over 4,000 movie reviews in that time and close to 100 product reviews.

Thanks, David!
I can't imagine writing that many reviews and can certainly understand the feelings of burn out. With so many movies that feel repetitive, with only the actors, and character and location names changing, it can be challenging to find interesting things to say about them. Your experience and perspective are deeply appreciated here, and we hope to see you continue posting for at least another 20 years!

Whoa, nice find! There are some more recent titles on there that weren't on Black Friday or Christmas sales, so it's a great time to stock up.
Oddly, I went back for a second round and there were new titles showing that weren't listed the first time I visited the page. But, when I tried to add The Wild Robot and Batman Returns, it wouldn't let me add them to the cart. Clicking on the titles, it said that they were no longer available from the selected seller.
This may be a cast of availability coming and going, so it may be worth checking more than once, in case the movies suddenly show up again.
Thanks for posting!
-
Check Blu-ray.com. They always keep track of the lowest price for discs. It’s fluid too so as the price changes it shows it. Great tool
-
I also use the CamelCamelCamel Chrome extension - this works with Amazon, where I can choose a target price, and it will notify me when the price drops to that price point (or lower).
-
Don, does CamelCamelCamel pick up this kind of group buy deal?
I looked through what's currently displayed. I don't buy nearly as many discs these days as some of you but I already had all but 1 title that I had any real interest in seeing again.

Hey Paul,
Not as far as I know - I've only seen or used it on a per movie basis, not a group buy.
There is a FB group, "4K UHD Blu-ray Movie Deals & Pre-Orders", which regular posts links to deals and pre-orders. I've picked things up with links posted there from time to time.

Update on the Amazon $33/3: The titles that showed as unavailable earlier showed up again later, so I was able to get The Wild Robot and Batman Returns. The sale goes until 1/20/25, so you may want to check on what's available from time to time.
I do look at Bluray.com, but their listings aren't always up to date or accurate. They also won't pick up coupons that may be available, some of which have been as high as 50% off. If you add the movies to your cart without checking out, the coupons will usually show up when they become available.
I don't have any movies with coupons right now, but here's what to look for in your shopping cart:

Good advice! Wild Robot showed up again, and I finally found 2 others that were of interest to me (I already had many of the others): North by Northwest and Goonies.
Several weeks before they ship apparently, so that's the only downside.

Yep, Furiosa just showed up on the offer page today, even though it had shown as unavailable every time I checked it since day one.
It's worth checking to see if anything if anything else might just turn up for the next 10 days.
-
Just a side note about this. The Amazon customer ratings/reviews are completely useless. EVERY MOVIE on the page has a 4.5 star rating, with a single exception: Joker Folie a Deux is 3.5. Even the movies with historically bad reviews, like Howard the Duck, show a 4.5 rating. Not going to even get into ranting about all the other problems with Amazon reviews - this is just about people automatically just giving 5* ratings with no level of discernment b/c it wasn't the worst movie of all time.

(Refreshed the page several times over the last week, still looking for a 3rd movie... )
Paul, you make a very good point. BUT, there is a but here. People who buy these movies are people who like them. It's not a random thing. Only people who liked "Howard the Duck" (both of them) are going to buy it and they will put up good reviews. People who hate this movie will not be buying the disc and will not be putting up the review it deserves.

Good point Barry.
-
Ok, you make a good point too, Barry. It's called "selection bias" where the sample or population of something isn't truly representative but skewed a certain direction in a positive or negative way because it's already selected in some way. Kinda like how the people here would view a $10k projector as being worth the price but 95% of folks would faint, lol.
But some of the reviews still give HtD 5 stars despite saying negative stuff. So my point that the reviews thus aren't all that helpful still stands; just because the bias upwards is built in doesn't change that. Interestingly, I find IMDB user reviews tend to go a bit the opposite way especially for movies that are challenging in any way.

I find Amazon reviews (for any item) in general, to be of uncertain benefit. Time and time again I've seen people submit reviews with however many stars, with the comment that they just ordered it and are looking forward to getting it. I mean, seriously!! Or they bought it, but haven't used it yet. Why they're submitting reviews, I have no idea!!
I rely on IMDB (and find the same bias toward the negative that you mention) and Rotten Tomatoes, and this has generally worked out well. But there are definitely some I've purchased this way, where I ended up wishing I hadn't. I am scrupulous about avoiding any spoilers, so often I may only know the genre and cast of a particular movie. This provides a better viewing experience most of the time, but sometimes there are significant disappointments!

howard the duck. i loved it as a kid but have zero memories of it. wonder if id like it today
-
(Refreshed the page several times over the last week, still looking for a 3rd movie... )
Check again today. I noticed what look like new titles listed that I haven't seen there before.
I've found 12 movies so far with this deal and still keep checking every day.

For any Manga lovers that don't already own it, Amazon has Ghost in the Shell [4k + Blu-ray + Digital] [4K UHD] (https://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Shell-4k-Blu-ray-Digital/dp/B08CJTQ91J/ref=pd_lutyp_pd_typ_d_typ_dealz_cs_d_sccl_1_3/132-3366228-2745724?pd_rd_w=ApDnU&content-id=amzn1.sym.63296f91-2332-4033-9211-28ee3e00ae7b&pf_rd_p=63296f91-2332-4033-9211-28ee3e00ae7b&pf_rd_r=N5GN4AG2DM6GKV2E1Y9K&pd_rd_wg=qXEOk&pd_rd_r=3da63b9f-1c90-4569-bf71-4a06c3d464d0&pd_rd_i=B08CJTQ91J&psc=1) on sale for just $9.99 right now.
CamelCamelCamel shows it's been as low as $7.99 for short periods, but the average price is $14.41.

Amazon has another 3 for $33 sale going on right now. Same as last time, titles may float in and out.
Unlike last time, there are some fresh titles showing up this time: Amazon $33 for 3 items (https://www.amazon.com/promotion/psp/A3M5XND2Y9IJC8?ref=psp_pc_cart_collapse&redirectAsin=B0CJVNCQG3&redirectMerchantId=ATVPDKIKX0DER)
There are some really nice titles this time, including the movie David and I both ranked as our #1 film for 2024: Godzilla Minus One.
I also picked up The Fugitive and Blazing Saddles, which also got thumbs up from David here:
The Fugitive (4K UHD Blu-ray) review - Movie reviews - AVS Discussions (https://discuss.avscience.com/index.php?topic=4068.msg27680#msg27680)
Blazing Saddles (4K UHD Blu-ray) review - Movie reviews - AVS Discussions (https://discuss.avscience.com/index.php?topic=4367.0)
Run, run, run, for best selection. And check back from time to time to see if anything new has been added.
It's turning out to be a pretty good time to be a collector!

This is an advance notice on what could be a great deal or a bust. Gruv is announcing a one-day only "Gruv Day" on 5/23/2025. There are no details, but they are hyping it up as 24 hours of deals. There's a link right now, but it only takes you to their main page.
I'll try and update this when more details are available, but since I'll likely be working that day, it may be too late for some of you to check out.
They've offered some really good deals in past sales, so this may offer some true bargains.
-
There's an actual link to the Gruv one-day sale now, but it's only a placeholder: GRUV Day - May 23rd (https://www.gruv.com/category/gruv_day_pre_awareness)
Starts May 23rd 00.01 Pacific Time, and only while supplies last, so plan accordingly and feel free to post any great deals you may have found.
-
3 AM ET... urggg... lol. As it turns out, anything I really wanted was available from the pre-day landing page Scott linked.
In the 2 4K for $24 section, grabbed The Wild Robot, Gozilla Minus One, Furiosa, and Watchmen Chapter II.

Glad you found something you wanted, Paul.
Most of the 4K 2 for $24 titles were also available from Amazon when they had their $33 for 3 sales over the past few months, but there are some new additions, such as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which I haven't seen for that price before.
For 4K Steelbook lovers, there is a special 2 for $30 selection, but it's limited: GRUV Day 4K Steelbook Deals - 2 For $30
I (https://www.gruv.com/category/gruv_day_4k_steelbook_deals)t's not a bad sale, especially for anyone trying to round out their collection, but it's not quite as spectacular as I had hoped for. It's still worth taking a couple of minutes to review what they have.
-
I ended up buying Children of Men and The Great Outdoors on Blu-ray from the GRUV sale. I wanted to buy Maverick as well, but it was sold out. Thanks for the heads-up Scott.
-
Strangely, the "One Day Sale" is still going on as of right now.
If anyone missed out yesterday, you still have time to score something that you're missing.
-
Right on the heels of their last sale, Gruv has another new 4K deal, just in time for Father's Day:
Father's Day 4K Deals - 2 For $22 (https://www.gruv.com/category/4k_uhd_multi_buy_offers)
It's an absolutely huge collection, but mostly older titles. Even so, I was able to find a couple of titles that had eluded me.
-
Amazon is having one of their periodic buy two, get 50% off one and there are a number of titles that don't usually show up on their regular sales. This link might take you to the sale where you can search for 4K discs: Amazon Buy 2, save 50% on 1 (https://www.amazon.com/promotion/psp/A2X35KYGSAOBGN?ref=_see_more&redirectAsin=B0018O4YSQ&redirectMerchantId=ATVPDKIKX0DER)
If that doesn't work, you can just search for 4K movies and look for the little green savings tag:
Clicking on the individual title will give you a clickable link to all of the sale items where you can search or filter for what you're looking for. (There are a bunch of other items besides movies that you can choose from, so if you only find one title you may be able to match it with something completely different.)
-
Amazon has a bunch of 4K UHD Criterion Collection movies at 50% of right now. Here's a link to some of them: Amazon Criterion titles (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=criterion+collection&i=movies-tv&rh=n%3A2625373011%2Cp_n_format_browse-bin%3A9397930011&dc&page=2&crid=22DOPYMXQY0GB&nav_sdd=aps&qid=1751044719&sprefix=crite&xpid=RjwLs8Dt12ban&ref=sr_pg_1).
I picked up two of my favorite foreign films - Jean de Florette / Manon of the Spring (https://www.amazon.com/Jean-Florette-Manon-Spring-Collection/dp/B0DTBQZC5L/ref=sr_1_49?crid=22DOPYMXQY0GB&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Kpevqyx9Tpoiujxre_BtsuVx3UhdP8GhcF2R-TQwWG4qmgWg06L6_qDJCkpPwvB1qelng5Unb4hX-wYKOynBAGZw2oZVZvf4TuB0tkpVOYQymKDtjIxdR4MoUS0Jd_JBhv5fCPmxFEQ8juqBjHjr-jOXAyZ8NfPw1ejzhMua_Xs.Hk0FK6KCGFjoZfC3048vS9fgr5jv2kvvZBuIhOKGeow&dib_tag=se&keywords=criterion+collection&nav_sdd=aps&qid=1751044800&refinements=p_n_format_browse-bin%3A9397930011&s=movies-tv&sprefix=crite&sr=1-49&xpid=RjwLs8Dt12ban) set for a ridiculously low $34.98.

Amazon, through Amazon UK, has the three-disc 4K Paddington series on sale for $45.20 right now. That's about $11 less than it typically is.
Amazon.com: Paddington: 3-Film Collection [4K UHD] : Sony Uk: Movies & TV (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DLL2QSS8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title)
It did tell me that international shipping is free, and the estimated tax will be $2.49.
My wife and I fell in love with the series after recently watching them, and the US doesn't offer all three of them in 4K.
-
Gruv is having another Crazy Days sale. Pricing is 3/$39.99, so not as good as some previous sales but there are newer titles on this list that haven't made it to these deals before. Examples are: The Outlaw Josey Wales, Dirty Harry, Pale Rider, Amadeus, Nosferatu, the new Shaun of the Dead remaster, and others.
Crazy Days 4K Deals - 3 For $39.99 – GRUV Entertainment (https://gruv.com/collections/crazy-days-4k-multi-buy-deal)
There are 169 titles available at the time of this posting, so it's worth the time to browse through them and see if there's anything worth adding to your collection.
-
I bought 6 Blu-rays on their 3 for $19.99 sale of titles I'd had my eyes on for a while but never pulled the trigger on.

Glad to see the server back up

Deep Discount has some 4K stuff on sale, plus a 15% coupon. I grabbed MI Dead Reckoning, and The Northman, for roughly $15 each.
-
I saw this posted on Slickdeals and thought some of you may be interested. Barnes and Noble is have a 50% off sale on select Arrow Video titles. Here's a link: 4K Ultra HD, Arrow Video | Barnes & Noble® (https://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/_/N-1z141szZ1z13vs7?Nrpp=20&page=1)

Gruv is continuing their Crazy Days 4K sale with a new round of titles included in 3 for $30 (https://gruv.com/collections/crazy-days-4k?page=1).
This is a big one; there are 247 different movies available at this time!
Yes, these are mostly older releases, but there are a few that are at their lowest price point.
Check it out to plug any holes that you might have in your collection.
-
Here's a treat for fans of the Wallace and Gromit series. Shout! released a 4K set of all the shorts last month and the price has dropped from $30 down to $14 as of this minute. Here's a link: Wallace & Gromit: The Complete Cracking Collection - 4K Ultra HD 4K UHD (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0F4X6T5BT/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_7?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1)
That's the same price as the DVD set!
We love this series, so it's an instant buy for me.
-
Wow that’s a great deal
-
Ordered the W&G - thanks Scott!
The last Gruv sale was great but I could only find 1 movie in the 4K list that I really wanted so I passed. (Would've been at least 2 if I hadn't ordered The Northman for a bit more on an Amazon deal.) Keep it coming though!
-

I've had the same problem with the Gruv selections, with both the 4K and Blu-ray sales. I found two of each that I wanted but couldn't find a third that I hadn't already bought to round out the total.
It took me by complete surprise to see 4K discs for $10; I thought those days were over.
There's still another August weekend coming up, so there could be one more round of Crazy Days deals popping up tomorrow.
-
Here's an odd one for you.
Remember when Best Buy stopped selling movies? Well guess what, they're back (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?browsedCategory=pcmcat345600050039&id=pcat17071&qp=format_facet%3DFormat~4K+Ultra+HD+Blu-ray&st=categoryid%24pcmcat345600050039). Kind of.
They aren't selling movies directly, but as a third party for companies like Gruv.
So, what makes this worthy of the deals thread? Well, if you're a Best Buy rewards member (even at the free tier) they will occasionally send out rewards certificates for $5 or $10. Applying that to 4K movies (or even Blu-ray) you can end up with a title for under $3, with free shipping! I just picked up the 4K UHD Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer for under $6.
I built up our library over the years by using the $5 certificates over the years, so I'm happy to see these offered again.
Your mileage may vary, based on whether or not you're lucky enough to get the certificates.

Scott, thanks again for posting this. Got a $10 coupon today from BB and used it to buy The Phoenician Scheme. Nice that shipping was free even for a single title.
It wasn't under $3, or even under $15 but I haven't seen it drop anywhere and really want to see this one soon.
-

You're very welcome, Paul.
Until now, I probably let about five or six of these certificates pass buy since there wasn't anything to use them on. Now that they're offering movies again, it makes it a lot easier to find something.
-
Many Criterion movies are currently on sale for 50% off at both Amazon and Barnes & Noble right now.
I'm not sure how long this will last, but they have these sales a couple of times per year.
-
Here's an offer from a site I haven't used before: Movies Unlimited (https://www.moviesunlimited.com/)
They have a bunch of Paramount 4K discs for under $9 (https://www.moviesunlimited.com/hundreds-of-hits-from-paramount-only-878/b251448?mod=AP&ft=4K+Ultra+HD) right now. Orders over $50 ship for free.
Here's a sample of what I found:
I've seen titles go in and out of stock, so had to wait a while until my order qualified for free shipping, but there are some real bargains to be found if you're looking to upgrade.
-
Gruv is starting Black Friday early. They have 20 different titles right now for $12.99 each, including such recent releases as F1, Superman, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Jurassic World: Rebirth, The Phoenician Scheme, Sinners, Companion, How to Train Your Dragon (live action), and A Minecraft Movie. Some are sold out but could come back in stock at any time.
Here's the link: Black Friday 4K UHD Deals: $12.99 Each - Limited Time Only (https://gruv.com/collections/black-friday-4k-uhd-deals-limited-time-only)
They also have a 3 for $30 sale (https://gruv.com/collections/4k-uhd-deals), with over 200 older titles.
As always, standard shipping is free.
-
Hot tip on the Gruv sale, Best Buy is offering the same price on some of those $12.99 movies, and if you've just received a bonus $5 or $10 certificate, it drops the price to just $7.99 or $2.99.
Or you can hold on to that certificate in hopes that something better comes along on Black Friday.
-
Gruv is having a sale on Select 4K UHD Christmas titles for just $9.99 right now, with titles such as Elf, A Christmas Story, Red One, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and others.

Unlike previous sales, there are some newer titles here, including F1, Boogie Nights, The Phoenician Scheme, Nobody 2, How to Train Your Dragon (live action), The Conjuring 4, and many others.
Great selection. As usual, titles may slip in and out of stock for as long as the sales lasts.

How To Train Your Dragon (2025)
I've never seen TGM! Haven't seen OOA since shortly after its release, I recall loving it and suspect my wife hasn't seen it but will too. Wife hasn't seen HTTYD. Something for everyone, lol.
And I think I've noted before, but still cracks me up and/or annoys me - EVERY single movie has a customer rating of ~4.5 stars. Every. Single. One. (On the listing page at least - if you go to individual movie page it might be 4.4, or 4.7. Whee.)
-
Thanks, Scott.

Howard the Duckgets a high rating?
From the celebrated creator and producer of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies and the writing team behind American Graffiti and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, comes an unforgettable, irreverent, action-packed intergalactic adventure from Marvel Comics - The House of Ideas!
The advertising copy practically writes itself.
In seriousness, anyone that it willing to spend money on the 4K version probably has a pretty soft spot for it, hence the high rating.
That's going to be the case for most of the Amazon ratings, as the buyers are probably already inclined to like or love the movie before purchasing. That's in contrast to the broader movie theater or streaming viewers, who would more likely be first time viewers.

They've been doing a great job bringing quality releases to the home market, so here's your chance to expand your library at a good price.

For what it's worth, it only has a 3.5/5 score. Due to the artwork. 🤦♂️

I love it when people feel the need to review a disc or a book or a movie before it’s even out. And they give it a bad rating cause they don’t like the cover.
By the way, I did order the disc about a month ago when you first mentioned it, so thanks

It reminds me of when Amazon used to have Q&A sections on their products. It would never fail that someone would ask something like, "Do these sizes run small?" Invariably, multiple people would respond saying they couldn't answer because they have opened the item yet.
-
I can understand, to some extent, cover art issues IF it's a truly iconic image from the movie - the initial poster, or whatnot. But by far the thing I'll see the most is the spine on the shelf, lol.
Re Amazon questions on sizing, it's not uncommon for me to see that and people answer very strongly both ways. ::)

March Movie Madness : 4K UHD Deals - 3 for $39 – GRUV Entertainment (https://gruv.com/collections/4k-uhd-multi-buy-offers)
While not the best deal, it does include some newer titles.
-
Sadly, they are all Universal or Warner titles and I either have them all or don't want the ones that are offered. :(
-
Gruv just sweetened the March Movie Madness deal with 3 for $30.
There are over 250 titles, but they're all older titles. Still, there could be three on the list to plug any holes in a 4K collection.

Criterion is having a 24 hour 50% off flash sale. I didn't see this until just now, so there's only about 15 hours left from the time of this posting.
here's a link: Criterion Sale Page (https://www.criterion.com/sale)
Free shipping once you hit $75, so not as great of a deal as the semi-regular B&N or Amazon sales.
Still, if there are a few titles you've been eyeing. . .
-
Thanks for posting theses

Not to be outdone, Arrow Video is having a up to 50% off sale on over 350 titles, many of which David and I have been reviewing.

As per previous sales, you may want to check from time to time to see if any new titles have been added.

Corpse Bride is currently on sale for just $10.49 with the coupon (not all accounts may have the coupon showing, so be sure to look for it and check the box). Heads up for this Friday, when Gruv is offering a one-day sale: GRUV Day - May 22nd – GRUV Entertainment (https://gruv.com/collections/gruv-day-pre-awareness?_pos=2&_psq=GRUV+Day&_ss=e&_v=1.0)
No clue what they'll be offering, but they've had some fantastic deals in the past.
-
Of main interest at Gruv is the 2 for $24 4K UHD deals that include some recent releases. Many were part of the recent 3/$33 sale at Amazon, but some of the titles went in and out of stock quickly, so I missed some of them. For example, I picked up Bugonia and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which I couldn't quite snag at Amazon.

Happy hunting!

Wow, they've already shipped my order! Lots of the titles I saw earlier are still available.
-
Thanks, Scott. Grabbed Sinners and The Batman.
-
Surprisingly, the one day still is still going on today. ???
There are some great deals on the movie collection sale as well, with many prices at under $10 per disc: GRUV Day Deals - 4K UHD Collections – GRUV Entertainment (https://gruv.com/collections/gruv-day-deals-4k-uhd-collections)

For those of you disappointed by the lack of deals during the Amazon Prime sale, Gruv has some select horror and thrillers on sale at two for $24.
Included are such titles as Speak No Evil, Shaun of the Dead, Poltergeist, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Psycho, M3GAN, and various Universal Classic Monsters.

ROFL. I guess I don't have the UHDs (droids) you're looking for.
-
The Prime sale is still going on, but this doesn't happen to be part of it: "]Pee-wee's Big Adventure (The Criterion Collection) [4K UHD] (http://"Pee-wee's Big Adventure (The Criterion Collection) [4K UHD) for just $24.99.
That's 50% off and equal to what we usually see during the typical Criterion sales. Instant buy for me, but I know it's a polorizing movie.
-
I didn't notice it with the above post, but both Amazon and Barnes and Nobel are having their occasional 50% off sale for various Criterion movies.
There are too many titles to list but check them both out for anything you've been holding out for.

Barnes & Noble is holding another 50% off sale, this time on Arrow titles. If you've checked out our reviews, you'll see that Arrow has been regularly putting out some great older titles on 4K, most rescanned from the original negatives, plus a bevy of special features.
Here's a link: 50% off Arrow Video | Barnes & Noble® (https://www.barnesandnoble.com/shop/50-off-arrow-video-10755?orderBy=attributes.mfield_bnb__salesRank&attributes.mfield_bnb__parentFormat=4K+Ultra+HD&page=3)
There are some Blu-rays on sale, as well.
Amazon is matching those prices for some movies, so check them out if they're your preferred retailer.

Gruv is having another Crazy Days 4K Deals Sale (https://gruv.com/collections/crazy-days-4k?page=1).
It's almost all old titles, but there's over 275 titles to choose some so it's a great time to fill in any holes in your collection.
They also have a much pricier 3 for $60 Sale (https://gruv.com/collections/shout-factory-4k-deals) on Shout titles. These are typically much tougher to find deals on, so it might be time to snap them up.
