Studio: Lionsgate
 Release Date: February 25, 2020
 Rating:  R
Film:  4.5/5

 Plot
The circumstances surrounding the death of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey are mysterious, but there’s one thing that renowned Detective Benoit Blanc knows for sure—everyone in the wildly dysfunctional Thrombey family is a suspect. Now, Blanc must sift through a web of lies and red herrings to uncover the truth. From acclaimed writer-director Rian Johnson comes this suspenseful, twist-filled whodunnit with an all-star ensemble cast including Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, Christopher Plummer, and more.

 My Thoughts
It seems as if Hollywood has been in a perpetual slump the past 10 years or so, but I think we’ll look back on 2019 as one of the best years for movies in a long time. It was so good, in fact, this beautifully crafted film wasn’t even nominated for Best Picture. In my book, it was one of the best 10 films of the year and has mostly redeemed the reputation of Rian Johnson after his disastrous effort in the Star Wars universe.

In a lot of ways, the film is like a game of clue until about the mid-point when its revealed who actually committed the murder, but that certainly isn’t the end of the story. The onion needs to be peeled back on each member of the family to discover their true identities and motives, and that’s where all of the fun is. The dialog is witty and the pacing is perfect.

 Conclusion
Although this film received no love from the Academy, I found it to be wildly entertaining and one of the Top 10 films of 2019. It keeps you on your toes from the first scene as you try and solve the case and every twist and turn has you second guessing yourself. The A/V presentation is outstanding as well and this is one that’s easy to recommend.
