Considering HDMI 2.1 content won't likely be a reality for several more years (except for gamers) and the fact that HDMI 2.1 AVRs won't likely be released any earlier than 2020, for the majority needing a new AVR now, purchase one now and then IF you should need any of the newer features of HDMI 2.1, upgrade in maybe 3-4 years when there are AVRs and TVs that can handle the HDMI 2.1 content.
For those of you with big budgets, note that the current "flagship" Denon AVR X8500H and Marantz AV8805 pre/pro are both capable of being hardware upgradeable to HDMI 2.1 most likely the summer of 2020. Although a fee has yet to be determined, it will likely range somewhere between $200 - $300 with the unit being shipped to the Denon/Marantz factory repair facility, United Radio, Syracuse, NY.

Well, whatever you do, make sure you use one of those AudioQuest $1300 1 meter cables with it.
You don't want just 0's and 1's anymore. You'd want some 2's and 3's too....
