What do you think of this idea that Disney is now doing? I like it but when you already have a ton of normal size DVD/BRs, it sure makes it awkward to store, and find your movies IMO.

exactly...smaller is ALWAYS better for us and retailers....but screws up our collection displays :/

That is the worst idea I've ever heard of. Where on earth would I put 500+ of those ?

I have a lot more movies since that photo was taken. I'd need 12" deep shelves just to make it harder to find anything !

Well with a deeper shelf..all the discs would be 7" closer to you...less exercise. LOL

I think this is a dumb idea. Disney, quit wasting your time with this nonsense and release some of your classics like 20,000 Leagues on blu-ray. Also while you are at it I'd like to see some 4k releases.

It's a whale of a tale Ill tell ya lad....:)
I agree ShadeRF

It is pretty late in the game to change the size of the sleeves IMO...even though the Laserdisc sleeves were really nice. Not to mention most people are running out of space since there is so much coming out everyday.

They should put all the time and money they blew on this idea into re-mastering films in 4K that they have in their catalog.

I wonder if the person that came up with this idea got a bonus for it...if so I hope he is looking for another job, as if it fails he might be fired. LOl

its strictly a money saving venture (i.e. read more money in their pockets)...less packing material, same msrp = more profit margin
typical
anyone remember the big cardboard cases CD's came in when they first came out?

I remember those, and as I recall it was strictly a larger box with a cd jewel case inside...wasn't it?

bingo for some reason though as a kid...I collected the outer box lol

I still have a ton of Laser Discs and, at least, you can READ what's on the album! Try reading the blu-rays, at least for me, and you'll need a magnifying glass! Mind you, I'm not an advocate for the 12" album at this point in my blu-ray collection but trying to read what's on the blu-ray covers is nearly impossible for me.

Especially when you are trying to figure out what the aspect ratio is prior to watching to movie, or somone asks " what year did this come out " ? And it's in tiny tiny print. I have to use a flashlight. :o

Yeah. Me too, but this 69 year old kid just finally got rid of his outer box collection! I needed more room to store UHDs. Which, I agree with Craig and others, I wish they would get on with producing quality product, older re-issues, and proper 4K masters instead of gimmicks to try to maintain the inflated prices and bilk us out of what we want to hoard -- money for quality new UHDs!

So with Blu Rays, I've done this for a while - I put a small white sticker on the back of the case and write the aspect ratio and what volume my receiver should be set at, for quick reference that I can read !

That is an advantage I have when I rip them to my HDD...my media player gives that info before the movie starts.

You know how in a Star Trek movie Captain Kirk says " Scotty - divert all power to shields " ? In my case, it's " divert all cash to projectors ". New RS4500 - yes. New home theater PC - no. Maybe the new JVC will be so bright I won't need the flashlight ( as long as a 100IRE test pattern is up ) !
