Just when I thought we haven't mastered 4K projection yet (or have a lot of 4K content), here we see DPI giving us an 8K projector. What are we going to watch on it? Hehe

I also see that DPI is now labeled as a "Delta Associate Company". What exactly does that mean? Are they now owned by Delta or do they simply have a beneficial business partnership?

Is it native 8K or a pixel shifter ? :-\

Good question! I suppose we'll have to wait until a spec sheet is released. My guess is that, yes, it's a pixel shifter in some form or another.

I am pretty sure it is a E-shift design.

25,000 lumens ! You'll need a 30 amp 220 volt circuit to run this bad boy though !

But they're claiming 20,000:1 dynamic contrast. At 25,000 lumens 2000:1 contrast is pretty good. Then add in the laser illumination, 8K effective resolution and high frame rate capabilities. It doesn't seem too bad at all. I'm sure this thing will cost an arm and a leg. And maybe more body parts too.
I did a little more digging and it seems this model's DMDs will work like how the new "4K" .47 DMD will work. It will flash a 4K native image 4 times to effectively create a real 8K image. I'd love to see this beast in action. Apparently a single chip version using this DMD will be released soon too and that will have 18,000 lumens using a similar laser/phosphor light source:

Heck this is brighter than my local cinema projectors.

I'm already getting 47 foot lamberts - this would give me cataracts ! I'm going to need a bigger house !

If the laser dimming works close enough to the better DLP implementations I've seen over the years from Runco/Planar and Sim2, I think the image quality will be very very good. Just don't expect JVC-type contrast performance. For what this unit has spec-wise in all of the other areas I think it could be compelling for those who can afford it. Though I suspect this won't be marketed towards home theater, but rather commercial installations. Afterall it's using 3 large 1.38" native 4K DMDs. That right there tells me it's going to be expensive.

I've seen this... it looked horrible with absymal contrast and black levels. The dynamic contrast functionality was/is also afflicted by significant pumping and artefacts. It's also massive, heavy, and noisy... and very expensive :-\

It seems to be more of a proof of concept projector more than anything. Plus, in 2018, I wasn't expecting much in terms of contrast from a DLP based projector. I suspect such a projector would be used for an application where a viewer would be extremely close to a screen to the point where you wouldn't want to see any pixel structure at all. Plus, it would probably have to be paired with a dark color substrate screen so it didn't look washed out.
