Hi all. I am been looking through forum after forum for a receiver that can do 5.1.4 using either a 9.2 or 7.2 with external amp. The Denon X4300H seems to be a popular choice. Are there any others out there that can do the same around the same price point or less (preferably less)? I have been looking at Denon and Yamaha mainly. Thanks!

You'll need at least a 2015 or newer 9CH AVR to process a 9.2/7.2.2/5.2.4 setup as there are no longer are any current 7CH models that can expand to 9CH using an external amp. AFAIK, the Denon X4300H is the only 9CH model currently < $1000.

Marantz has the SR6012 which could be a good choice ( although more $ than a clearance X4300H ) -

Thanks for the replies. It looks like I will go for the 4300 then. Also, I already have Monitor Audio 8 ohm speakers. Can I safely use 6 ohm surrounds without damaging anything? I am finding a lot of atmos/surround speakers to be 6 ohm.
Thanks!

Yes. The Denon AVRs are designed to power 6-16 ohm speakers so you can add the 6-ohm surrounds without issue.
