  • Let's find some grass and roll in it!
Took some time, but I finally got here, JD.   :-[  So many forum posts, so little time...

I think everyone reading knows about AVS Forums where there is lots of info on the Yamahas and all the other brands.  But I'd like to add here what a great AVR the A3060 truly is.  From my perspective, that begins and ends with the audio quality -- really the #1 and only reason I bought this beast.  But as JD pointed out to me as I was trying to decide which level of the xx60s to buy into (coming from the A820), there is just so much more -- some of which is shown in his OP.

I just want to say that that those specs just touch on what this AVR can do.  I call it a "beast" because, after 4 months, I'm still learning and tweaking.  I have implemented just about every aspect of the A3060 -- 7.2.4 HT, Atmos and DTS:X Scenes, special Scenes for special setup reqs for my equipment,  Zone2, Zone4 (which includes ANOTHER complete setup of an alternative 5.1 Zone4 setup with a separate HDTV in my den -- a setup used to help sell some of my extra equipment), and (with the help of the Yamaha Android AV Control app and the browser accessible comprehensive Setup page (enter the ip address of the AVR "/setup" -- that is, <AVR ip addr>/setup"), I can switch configuration between a 7.2.2 with Zone2 for my outside speakers and 7.2.4 for full home theater capability in my living room -- and make that switch and control it from anywhere in and around my house.

All in all, it makes the cost of the A3060 AVR a truly minor consideration.

Umm, can I ask for a retroactive discount?   :-X  :D  :D

Actually, for any who may be considering one of these units (especially the 20/3060), I want to update my setup info which is described above.  The section about the Zone 4 has been changed.  Rather than run the Zone 4 HDMI down to my den, it has been re-routed to our guest bedroom which at times doubles as a "sick" room.  For one reason or another, it has see far too much use in the past year whether from minor surgery recovery or flu recovery.  One of those uses will be after my knee replacement scheduled for tomorrow (see, too much use!).

With the addition of an LG 65" B6 OLED in the HT, last month, the Vizio 4K was moved to that guest bedroom -- different room, similar setup but (as yet) no surround speakers.  (Now THIS would be a reasonable location for a soundbar.)  By adding a Harmony Hub, we have full control of the AVR, Directv, OPPO and Vizio from the guest bedroom using the Yamaha Controller App and the Harmony Hub App.  Since the room is next to our living room, there is also the option of enjoying the full Yamaha audio setup by simply opening the door.  (Maybe a soundbar isn't needed after all(?).)

Those with "Alexa" products (eg. Echo, Echo Dot, etc.) can have Alexa connect to their 2015 or 2016 Yamaha receiver or other MusicCast speakers via Bluetooth.  In the fall, a new Alexa skill will be released to allow WiFi connection on the newer AXX70 models.

We can no longer get the 2016 Aventage models from Yamaha.   Look for the newer 2017 Aventage models beginning next month.  We are taking pre-orders now for all the new models to include the A3070.
