Banding?

what would be the cause of some minor banding?

currently I am using the oppo 203 using strip meta with 150 nits on the slider (new beta) and I am getting slight banding on some discs....I have tried 4.2.2, 4.4.4, auto...... force 10-bit force 12-bit, auto...

on arrival its the worst...watched miss peregrin last night and there was minor banding...trying to get rid of it...its really the ONLY issue I have otherwise the SDR picture is outstanding.

TIA

Banding is normaly generated in the processors, maybe you can explain your videochain step by step, and explain how each signal transfer is setup, color space bit resolution and so on.

from oppo to AVR (no processing) to JVC rs400

in the oppo

everything is on auto so whatever the 4k disc is spitting out

not sure if that helps

The AVR most likely passes the signal true some sort of processor, so the first thing i would do is bypass that one, it might do croma or bit upsampling, or convert colorspace.

Most display these days seems to work best with component HDMI, so try force it to do component 4:2:2, as it most likely upsample croma in auto mode, its possible you just notice the limitation of a UHD 10bit source, if you can find a UHD WCG HDR gray ramp, you can check if you have bit rounding error, or ringing on the grayscale, very normal in digital CMS systems, wich is in all Digital displays in some form.

JVC is looking into this issue. They have isolated the cause. I do not yet know if a firmware update is coming for 400/500/600/420/520 or 620. Or if it will be in new models introduced at CEDIA. I hope that it is a firmware for 400 through 620.

Isolating the cause seems like a significant development and clear evidence that JVC is working on this issue.

Really? That's rather fantastic news if they know the cause of it.

P.S When is AVScience going to be on Tapatalk? That's how I get my notifications these days... Will post a lot more here once its on there :)

We were going to use Tapatalk, until we found out that they sell your information. That is why, after using, you get all the pop up crap geared toward what you search.
